Students pursuing an emphasis in Sustainable Buildings within the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program explore the science and practice the techniques behind building energy efficiency. Hands-on coursework includes such topics as climate-responsive design, net-zero energy design, energy conservation, passive solar design and natural ventilation systems. In this interdisciplinary program, students learn how to analyze existing and planned structures and use critical-thinking skills and solutions-based strategies to create workable plans to make those buildings more efficient. In addition to language proficiency, students seeking their Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Hispanic Linguistics emphasis gain a thorough understanding of Spanish language framework. Mexican American Studies examines the Mexican American experience as informed by social and health sciences, history, law and humanities. Current U.S. demographic trends show that Mexican Americans live and work in the Southwest, the Midwest and the South, and many of these communities need people who are knowledgeable about the challenges and trajectories of Mexican Americans. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance is a professional degree that provides students with technical training and performance experience. The program's triple-track design means students can study ballet, modern and jazz with equal emphasis. Students approach the study of dance as an art form and also as a means to understand society, history, the human body and other areas of scholarly endeavor. The core curriculum includes history, research in world dance, biomechanics, improvisation, choreography, music, musical theatre vocal training, production, and career planning. Majors may choose to emphasize ballet, modern or jazz dance in their technical classes and in performance, or maintain a broad, diverse approach.
