Enhance your love of all things French with greater language proficiency and deeper engagement with the French culture. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in French can opt for two areas of focus. The Language, Literature and Culture emphasis is ideal for students who are considering graduate studies in French or who are interested in achieving a high level of competency in the language. Courses are taught in French by the department's esteemed scholars in French and Francophone language. Students are encouraged to study in Paris as part of a study abroad program that is among the best-established programs at the University of Arizona. In addition to learning to communicate fluently in French, students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, critical thinking and analysis.

If you find beauty in the theory of mathematics, learn how the Comprehensive emphasis can prepare you for graduate studies in math and science. Mathematicians can work as university professors, teaching and doing research, or in a variety of scientific fields. The Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Comprehensive emphasis serves as a launching pad for students wishing to attain a graduate degree in mathematics, mathematics education or applied math. Undergraduates immerse themselves in the study of abstract algebra, mathematical analysis and more. They learn to apply rigorous logic and creativity to mathematical problems. In addition, they must complete a minor outside of the Department of Mathematics. Students who major in comprehensive mathematics and another field should be well-prepared for graduate studies in either field.

Expand your knowledge of the world's ecosystems and develop strategies to address the complex issues society faces in its stewardship of our planet's resources. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science offers an emphasis in Soil, Air and Water. Students who opt for this track gain a broad scientific understanding of human influence on the natural world, from the molecular level to a global scale. Through work in classrooms, in labs and in the field, students learn how to properly collect soil, water and air samples, identify and implement appropriate analytical techniques, and interpret results. They also gain a deeper understanding of how environmental systems sustain climate, purify water, provide food and fiber, and remediate pollution.

Develop expert-level language proficiency in one of the largest and most influential global economies. In the Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies program, students select from one of two focuses in language or culture. The Chinese Language Intensive focus provides instruction on three levels, from beginning to advanced, plus specialized instruction in advanced reading, writing and conversation. Students learn to communicate effectively and read proficiently.  The department offers a summer study abroad program in Hangzhou, where students learn about China's dynamic Buddhist tea culture while staying in a monastery connected to the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.

Examine the humanistic and scientific perspectives of politics a field of study designed to help you embark on a career to help change the world. Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program helps students cultivate clear and strong communication skills (writing, argumentation and presentation) as well as analytical abilities. Students examine the foundations of political science: theory, processes, principles, institutions, law, policy, international relations, foreign affairs, and ideas and methods. Students are encouraged to pursue opportunities outside of the classroom, such as internships at nonprofit organizations and government agencies, including the Arizona Legislature, the Arizona Superior Court and politicians' campaigns.

No matter the medium television, websites, publications through which news travels, it's trained journalists who bring truth to power and the people. Journalism is the field of researching and reporting the news through a variety of media. This Bachelor of Arts introduces students to the fundamentals of journalism, including important aspects of the field such as law and ethics. Students learn to gather information, interview subjects, analyze the content, distill it and then communicate to an audience effectively, accurately, quickly and ethically. While students get exposure to all aspects of journalism, they can also specialize in broadcast or global journalism, even opting for coursework in digital media, such as drone videography or app development, to further prepare them for this always-changing field. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required.

Specifically, it looks at how humans acquire language, the structures of language and how language influences the ways in which humans interact with and think about the world. Students in the Bachelor of Arts program with an Academic and Professional emphasis learn from world-renowned faculty (including the University of Arizona's own Noam Chomsky, a thought leader in linguistics) that includes experts in language documentation and revitalization, especially for Native American languages. Throughout the program, students examine language structures, the relationships between language and cognition, computational linguistics, literature, social constructs and psycholinguistics.

Technology and creativity come together in fascinating ways. Be on the cutting edge of this rapidly growing field with a degree in computational arts. The study of information science and arts uses a solid mathematical and technical foundation to emphasize computational arts, such as creative coding and digital storytelling. The Bachelor of Arts in Information Science and Arts consists of coursework organized into three tiers: core classes (computer programming, digital ethics, statistics, fundamentals of information science); research methods, data analysis and intensive computing; and advanced techniques customized to each student's interest. Students enjoy access to laser cutters, 3D printers and other technologies in the new rapid prototyping lab, and they can harness their creativity into a highly specific technical expertise.

Work with internationally renowned Latin American scholars on critical topics facing these communities, such as gender issues, health at the border and environmental concerns. This program delves into the languages, cultures, history and politics of Latin America. The Bachelor of Arts emphasizes community engagement, foreign language acquisition and international relations. This degree pairs well as a second major to almost any other degree program at the University of Arizona, from business and public health to journalism and food studies. Students are encouraged to study abroad in Mexico, Central America, South America or the Hispanic Caribbean, as well as participate in internships at organizations like the Coalition for Human Rights, Barrio Stories and the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade.
