One of our strengths is our close-knit community, and that is by design. Faculty work closely with all VDC students as they progress through a series of 8 core design studios. This begins with design foundations, and progresses through courses in typography, user experience, branding, digital strategy, systems design, and culminates with a self-authored, senior design capstone project and portfolio.

The program provides training in a diverse combination of skills, including a strong understanding of design principles, typography and image making, the capacity to plan and design for human-centered products, interactions and experiences, an ability to harness the latest digital technologies and experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary environments.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management prepares individuals for in demand entry-level management positions in today’s complex and evolving healthcare system. Develop knowledge and skills in topics such as health systems and policy, healthcare law and ethics, healthcare finance, public health and epidemiology, quality measurement and outcomes analysis, and strategic planning in health services management. Obtain the management and leadership skills needed to make a difference in a number of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, government agencies and more.

The Jefferson Communication program prepares students for today’s media marketplace through a broad-based education that emphasizes storytelling, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and multimedia skills development.

The program tailors itself to the unique career goals of each student, and provides the key skills necessary to transition into new areas of communications, as the marketplace continues to change and grow.

Cardiac sonographers, also known as echocardiographers, use ultrasound to examine the heart's chambers, walls, valves and vessels. They use technology such as sophisticated diagnostic ultrasound imaging machines and transducers that use high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images to complete important tasks, such as:

• Acquiring information related to the heart's anatomy and physiology
• Producing real-time images of cardiac structures to assist the physician in diagnosing cardiovascular disease
• Evaluating acquired and congenital cardiac abnormalities and associated complications
• Evaluating narrowed or leaking heart valves
• Looking for causes of murmurs, chest pain, shortness of breath
• Tracking and evaluating chronic heart conditions

Cardiac sonographers work directly with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages in predominantly noninvasive procedures, carried out in small, low-lit rooms. They stand or sit beside the patient, who is on a stretcher, exam table or wheelchair. Sometimes the cardiac sonographer will transport a portable ultrasound to a patient's room and perform the test there.

The M.S. in Interior Architecture is a 49 or 69-credit graduate program structured to meet the needs of students from both non-design, design and architecture backgrounds seeking one of the best professional-level education in interior design/interior architecture. The program offers up to one year of advanced standing for those already in the field who are interested in refining their knowledge and skills at the graduate level. This program prepares students to reach their full potential, whether seeking an introduction or building on previous experience.

As an Interior Architecture program, we emphasize how the interior environment encompasses all parts of the interior volume and acknowledges the intersection between architecture and interiors. The curriculum integrates theory with the technical skills needed for practical application and immerses students in current technologies and sustainable practice as they work collaboratively and think critically to discover innovative solutions. Jefferson’s campus is positioned minutes from downtown, offering networking and employment opportunities within the city’s thriving architecture industry. Our faculty of practicing professionals provides many advantages and a range of real-world experiences. Graduates are well-prepared to sit for the NCIDQ exam and to join professional organizations such as ASID and IIDA, and to work for firms in all areas of the profession, including residential, commercial, corporate, healthcare, hospitality and education.

The accounting program at Thomas Jefferson University prepares you to become a professional with a broad understanding of public accounting and financial management of corporate and nonprofit organizations.

You will have the opportunity to network with accounting industry professionals from day one, participate in industry-sponsored projects, complete an exciting semester abroad, or help to run our Student Managed Investment Fund. You can also earn your iMBA degree in one additional year of study while preparing for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 (CFA) exam.

The Master of Science in Microbiology & Immunology Program offers choices for career specialization with flexible schedules, professional training for academic credit and academic preparation for national professional certification.

The broad-based curriculum includes a minimum of 40 credits. Course content includes:

Master's research thesis or, alternatively, a Non-Thesis Option
The program may be completed on a part-time or accelerated (coursework) schedule over a period of 1.5 to four years. Courses are offered late afternoon/early evening and meet once per week, allowing students the flexibility to work while taking classes or devote their full attention to their studies. Flexibility is the key. .

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologists use non-ionizing radio frequency electromagnetic waves (low-energy electromagnetic waves in conjunction with a magnetic field) to generate image contrast and create a 3-dimensional image of a part of the body. MRI technologists operate MRI and related auxiliary equipment, perform venipuncture and communicate with radiologists, members of the health care team, patients and their families.

MRI technologists work directly with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages. They must be able to move and lift patients from exam tables to and from MRI scanning rooms, sit at computer consoles in a small, low-lit room and adhere to safety policies working in or near a magnetic field.

To perform/assist with MRI procedures on patients, students must initially under­go the same screening procedures as patients in order to enter the scan room. The MRI scan room contains a region of intense magnetic field. Objects that dis­play any form of ferromagnetism are therefore of particular concern for MRI. Contraindications for entering the MRI scan room include:

• Certain biomedical implants, materials, and devices (e.g., aneurysm clips, brain clips)
• Certain electrically, magnetically and mechanically activated implants and devices (e.g., cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants)
• Certain metallic foreign objects (e.g., shrapnel, bullets, metal in eyes)

MRI students must be re-screened for MRI safety clearance, should their status change during the academic year, with regard to any potentially hazardous implants, devices, or objects, prior to MRI rotations or observations.

The four-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (B.S.) program allows students to focus on a field allied to the profession of architecture. After common first-year studios that lay the foundation for visual thinking, students will select two minors based upon their areas of academic and professional interest. The College of Architecture and the Built Environment offers an array of minors that allow Architectural Studies students to customize their education and earn a degree with a pre-professional design emphasis with a liberal arts focus. Opportunities exist for collaborative studios, fieldwork, study abroad options, professional internships and elective offerings.

Contemporary architecture encompasses a number of discrete, though intersecting, disciplines and requires individuals trained to fill a variety of roles beyond that of designer. The College of Architecture and the Built Environment offers an array of minors to allow students to customize their education and earn a degree with a pre-professional design emphasis and a liberal arts focus. Options range from areas that are intrinsic to making and constructing buildings and environments, such as building technology, to fields that support the rehabilitation and documentation of architecture and sites, such as historic preservation.

For students who want a competitive edge, valuable connections, and real-world experience in the evolving fashion industry, the M.S. in Global Fashion Enterprise (MSGFE) program expands the career horizons of forward-thinking professionals with diverse backgrounds in fashion design, merchandising, management, and other industries. Students benefit from a focus on global fashion development and an appreciation of apparel ecosystems throughout the value chain. Graduates of Thomas Jefferson University, which is ranked in the top 20 fashion schools in the world by Business of Fashion, and the MSGFE program possess the skills, knowledge and industry networks to bring value-added innovation to the fashion industry and to manage a thriving global fashion enterprise successfully.

Jefferson's active, collaborative approach to education in our Nexus Learning model is the foundation of this program’s curriculum. In a hands-on learning environment, students examine new fashion designs, ideas and technologies to create viable business models and market-driven innovation. In addition to the 22 core credit hours, the MSGFE program culminates in 9 credits of Global Fashion Project courses. This unique experience allows for significant customization for students to meet career aspirations. In these courses, students from disparate backgrounds work in teams to find new product or system opportunities, then design and prototype functional products or systems that answer the requirements of their research findings. Students also benefit from the projects by working directly with successful fashion and apparel companies. Regular meetings with outside project stakeholders take place to give students networking opportunities that may translate into exciting internship and employment opportunities.
