The Sustainable Design program at Thomas Jefferson University was developed by a group of the country’s top sustainable designers and experienced sustainability professors. The result is an award-winning trans-disciplinary, collaborative design program. Students build problem-solving skills to develop market-driven solutions to become leaders in sustainable design to better serve society.

Our professors are comprised of theory-based full-time faculty and practicing professionals with diverse backgrounds in architecture, engineering, design, sustainability leadership, and construction management. Based on an integrated design education model, the program offers a unique advantage by introducing students early in the design process to experts, design options and real-world constraints.

Projects range from high performing sustainable design projects to sustainable initiatives for non-profits and start-ups. Industry partnerships feature prominently, providing networking opportunities and hands-on practice with real-world challenges. Strong integration with the design and sustainability community in Philadelphia provides students and graduates ample opportunities for internships, volunteer positions, and job placement.

We investigate issues and institutions through the lenses of law, sociology, criminology, psychology, ethics, economics, culture, science, history, politics and political science. We build critical thinking skills and communications skills while we effectively debate. We actively examine legal systems, courts and conceptions of justice and human rights within both the American and international contexts. We examine and discover the reliable evidence while weeding through the false narratives and fake news

Radiation Therapy, also known as x-ray therapy, is part of radiation oncology. Radiation Therapists use linear accelerators to administer radiation to treat cancer. They work closely with the medical dosimetrist, radiation oncologist and radiation physicist. People in this profession work in fast-paced environments, stand for most of day and move and lift patients to and from treatment rooms.

Radiation Therapists work directly with critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. A Radiation Therapist must be able to:

• Administer, record, and interpret cancer treatment prescribed by radiation oncologists
• Easily adapt to stressful environment
• Know about alternate imaging concentrations
• Work in small teams
• Learn to use different imaging techniques
• Manage side effects of treatment

Our Radiation Therapy Concentration is one of few Radiation Therapy Programs on the East Coast that offers Virtual Environment Radiotherapy Training (VERT) for student training. VERT is a life-size replica of a real linear accelerator used by radiation therapists to treat cancer patients. Students learn key skills by controlling the virtual machine with real controls. 3D visualization of patient images, organs, treatment beams and dose makes complex theoretical concepts easy to understand. Our students also use CT scanners and high energy linear accelerators of ionizing radiation.

In the textile design program, you will learn how to turn innovative ideas into actual printed, woven and knitted products. Through our proven curriculum, you will be trained to blend aesthetic and creative skills with the latest technologies.

You will take studio and technical courses in weaving, knitting and printing, dyeing and finishing, and materials technology. You will be taught by active members of the textile design field, including artists, design directors, authors and researchers. Visiting artists and guest lecturers expand the educational experience, bringing real-world applications to the classroom experience.

Partnerships with industry and national and international design competitions provide you with practical experience. You can also study abroad to learn about a new culture while expanding your textile design skills. And, since our faculty remain active in the textile design field, our internship program is one of the strongest in the industry. You may intern with companies like Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch starting in your junior year.

 Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to enter the global textile marketplace with a commanding competitive edge and attain positions in all areas of the industry from national and international firms to boutique and specialty retailers.

Our graduates’ first jobs include: print designers for apparel and home furnishings, dobby and jacquard woven stylists for contract and residential upholstery, and textile specialists for high performance sports apparel.

The Finance Program at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) prepares students to become professionals with a comprehensive understanding of global financial markets and financial institutions.

Our graduates are prepared with skills to tackle complex financial problems, and have the professionalism to work effectively in any environment. As a student in the program, you will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, participate in international competitions, manage an investment portfolio through our Student Managed Investment Fund, study abroad for a semester, and earn your iMBA degree in one additional year while preparing for the Chartered Financial Analyst Level I (CFA) exam.

The M.S. in Textile Technology at Jefferson offers an integrated and collaborative curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with experiential laboratory experiences. In many courses students turn innovative ideas into original products.  It is expected that graduates of the program will pursue careers in production, product evaluation, research and development, or management in the textile and apparel related fields.

The program teaches cutting-edge technical textile processes to students interested in learning more about the science and technical based aspects of textiles. Courses focus on development, production, and characterization of fibers, yarns, fabrics, and textile based products.   The program combines theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with hands-on experience with weaving, knitting, nonwovens, and composites production equipment in the innovative Fashion and Textiles Futures Center, as well as materials evaluation equipment in the Grundy Lab on the East Falls campus.

The TJU fashion design program prepares you to influence the fashion design world. Our alumni work as fashion professionals in all areas and levels of the fashion industry, following in the footsteps of our distinguished faculty who have served as leaders in both the design and production sides of the fashion industry. With such a strong network of fashion expertise, you will have plenty of opportunities to land coveted internships and start careers in companies including PVH, Lilly Pulitzer, Anthropologie, Free People, Coach, Nannette Lepore, BCBG Maxazria, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Urban Outfitters, and Vogue Magazine.

The Bachelor of Science in Textile Product Science (TPS) prepares students to work in a global industry that includes fiber-engineered products for medical, geotextiles, architecture, fiber-reinforces composites and traditional apparel and home-furnishing applications. TPS program is comprised of thirteen (13) core textile courses, which delineate all TPS majors. The true interdisciplinary nature of Textile Product Science is realized in the student’s ability to select advanced work in one of the five, 9-course concentrations.

Another dimension of the program will be to educate and graduate fully integrated individuals who possess the technical and social competence and confidence to succeed in professional practice and advanced education, be lifelong learners and exercise responsible stewardship.

The Design studio courses make up the majority of the coursework in the MS program and design research is stressed from the beginning.

Graduate students select either knit, print or weave as their area of concentration and the courses are taught by active members of the textile design field: artists, design directors, authors and researchers.
