With a broad interdisciplinary base, the gender studies major at Hanover allows you to look at the subject of gender through a variety of lenses. The departments of theology, sociology, philosophy, psychology, political science, art history and English all have something to teach you about gender.
You’ll look at gender in various cultures and how it shapes people’s experiences and world views. You’ll break down your own assumptions through dynamic class discussions and experiences. For many students, the major is not so much a body of knowledge as it is a deeply personal path of inquiry. The major is often combined with second major.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Bachelor of Geology
As a geology student at Hanover, you will develop your scientific reasoning through discoveries in the classroom and in the field. Geology studies are supported by a wide range of hands-on experiences that make learning come to life.
Our small class sizes allow for lively discussions about compelling issues in geology, ranging from global warming to depletion of our natural resources. You will have opportunities to work with state-of-the-art laboratory technology and pursue research in collaboration with our faculty. You will gain valuable field experience in at least one of Hanover’s off-campus travel courses to the Grand Canyon, Ghost Ranch, N.M., or even northwest Scotland, where you will learn how to recognize rock types and geological structures, as well as apply your knowledge to field-mapping and problem-solving.
Our students are prepared for graduate school or careers in environmental geology, geotechnical consulting, hydrology and the energy and mineral industries. As a Hanover geology graduate, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to address critical issues that will shape our planet’s future.

At Hanover, students use chemistry to better understand the issues faced by modern society. Maybe your interest is life-saving antibiotics or new kinds of synthetic fibers. Maybe you want to learn how to measure pesticides in drinking water or the antioxidants in food. It’s all possible to explore in the superbly equipped labs at your disposal.
You’ll begin with an introduction to the breadth of chemistry, followed by a deeper study of advanced subjects. Your program will culminate with a collaborative research project in which you’ll explore an area of interest to you, with the help from a member of Hanover’s highly specialized faculty. Along the way, you will become a person who speaks the language of chemistry, thinks critically and solves problems.

Bachelor of Classical Studies
At Hanover, you’ll find many paths into the worlds of the Greeks and Romans. You can study Latin and Greek texts, as well as archaeology and the history of the ancient Mediterranean. And you can take further courses in mythology, classical art, early Christianity, anthropology or gender studies.
In other words, Classical Studies is interdisciplinary – it covers many ways of thinking about and approaching Greek and Roman culture. So we offer two different majors, designed for a variety of student interests. And within each major there is freedom to choose from among a variety of courses:

Bachelor of Medieval Renaissanace
The Medieval-Renaissance Studies major is an interdepartmental major that will focus your attention on the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and their classical antecedents. This major will give you the structure of discipline-specific courses (including history, literature and art history) and the flexibility of working across scholarly disciplines.
If you want to declare this major, you must have your major programs approved by the Medieval-Renaissance Committee before entering your junior year; subsequent changes in major programs must also be approved by the Committee.

As a Hanover sociology student, you’ll learn to step outside your own class, ethnicity and gender to see the world from other points on the social spectrum. You’ll quickly apply your class work in practical settings.
Maybe your class will visit the penitentiary or homeless shelter. Maybe you will travel to Arizona to study Native American sociology or to a major European city to study urban society. You’ll grow to understand the large social forces and structures that impact lives and how we can affect them.
