Physics is a quest for understanding the principles that govern vastly diverse phenomena, from subatomic particles to our entire universe of stars and galaxies. It lies at the foundation of all natural science and supports numerous areas of engineering and technology shaping our way of life. At the Department of Physics and Astronomy, students enjoy small, rigorous classes working one-on-one with dedicated professors. At Hanover, the study of a modern language is rooted in activities and readings that help students see the world with the perspective of another culture. You’ll learn to use language as a tool that connects cultures, business and individuals.

Instead of learning only good spelling and grammar, you’ll expand your cultural awareness through the study of civilization, culture and literature and become a global citizen. Since languages are best learned through immersion, all classes are taught entirely in French. You are encouraged to seize the many opportunities to interact in French in the community and abroad.

As a kinesiology student, you’ll develop an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, allowing you to help people maintain healthy lifestyles. You’ll also learn how exercise impacts the body’s structure and function through intensive courses in human sciences and biomechanics.

With access to exceptional labs and equipment, and a world-class recreation center, you’ll have opportunities for experiences and research depth rarely available to undergraduates. For example, in your human anatomy class you’ll work in the cadaver lab. With the state-of-the-art human patient simulator, you’ll experience what it’s like to be part of a healthcare team as you diagnose and treat virtual patients.

At Hanover, English majors read, write and study literature in order to investigate the basic human impulse to make sense of life through art.

You’ll study traditional literary works as well as underrepresented voices that may be new to you. Our award-winning faculty and visiting scholars will challenge you with new ideas. Develop your own creative writing and contribute to the student-run literary magazine, newspaper or coffee house readings. Travel abroad to discover your literary roots. As you advance in your studies, take one of our unique, in-depth seminars focused on a literary master. The major culminates with an independent research or creative project you design yourself.

Mathematics students at Hanover learn to reason through problems to find a solution, express ideas clearly and recognize relations among seemingly dissimilar situations. As a mathematics major, you will become a creative thinker who can analyze a wide range of situations. You will master the skill of simplifying the complex. With small class sizes and a dedicated faculty, Hanover also lets you follow your particular interests through internships and independent study programs.

At Hanover, studying economics will lead you to an understanding of the financial issues that drive local and world events – wealth, poverty, business, politics, stock markets, recession, employment, taxes and more. Through meaningful service and opportunities to travel on extended field trips with our faculty in the U.S. and abroad, you’ll learn about economic challenges facing today’s world, and explore how you can help overcome them. The study of economics prepares you to excel in the continually changing and increasingly interconnected global economy.

One species with 6,000 languages and countless cultural manifestations. Anthropology students study what it means to be human and use that knowledge to navigate relationships. With an emphasis in cultural anthropology, Hanover will help you develop an understanding of your own culture and the diverse cultures of those very different from you.

Our accomplished faculty will closely mentor you, and you may have the opportunity to assist with research or even co-author journal articles. As you learn about the complexities of human communication, you can use it to help people understand each other – whether in political situations, business dealings or family institutions.

The Business Scholars Pathway is an application-focused educational journey that pairs traditional business education with practical, real-world experience resulting in highly sought career-ready graduates. Our business faculty and career center staff closely follow hiring trends and employer needs, and dynamically tailor the program to respond to emerging needs. 

In partnership with the Levett Career Center, the Business Scholars Program includes other enhancements to the traditional business major and minor, including:

If you love watching movies set in the past, reading historical fiction or re-enacting history at military encampments, you understand history is alive. As a Hanover history major, you’ll study much more than just names and dates.

You may delve into the causes of the Holocaust, the sources of Lincoln’s greatness, the role of technology in war, our roles as members of a family, the triumph of Enlightenment rationalism, the meaning of our Constitution and much more. In other words, you learn to search for an interpretation of the past. At Hanover, as you learn to understand the past, you build the perspective and critical-thinking skills that enable you to succeed in a fast-changing world.
