The combination of chemistry-based curriculum with a significant biology research component prepares our students for postgraduate studies in biomedical sciences. While biochemistry focuses on the structure and function of compounds like DNA, enzymes and proteins, molecular biology focuses on how molecules convert information into chemical reactions. Hands-on experimentation is central to the curriculum, which allows students to engage in high-level work that most of their peers do not experience until graduate school.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) are academically equivalent within the department.

The B.S. and the B.A. in biology provide students with the experience and knowledge necessary to have a successful career. A B.S. in biology requires 28 approved hours from Math, Physics, and Chemistry department courses . Competency in a modern language other than English is strongly encouraged. The B.S. tends to be the preferred option for most students as it also most closely matches the expectations and requirements of many professional and graduate schools.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is for those who want a core of chemistry courses with a broader background in the liberal arts.

Students interested in chemical engineering can participate in the Engineering Dual-Degree Program. Chemical Engineering students complete either a B.A. or B.S. degree in Chemistry at NWU and any remaining engineering program requirements at one of our participating schools of engineering.

For students interested in studying pre-health, a program of study emphasizing a strong background in chemistry is available for students planning a future in medicine.

NWU International Studies is all about crossing borders. That begins on campus by crossing the boundaries between academic departments. NWU International Studies gives you the variety of perspectives you need for a fuller understanding of the world we share.

You’ll add experience through study abroad, language learning and service as well as through Nebraska Wesleyan’s diverse forum speakers, campus events and student groups.

This BFA Acting program develops your skills as an actor through experiences in the classroom and performance laboratory.

In recent years, our BFA students have participated in an average of six productions per year. You'll draw experience from a season that includes at least one Shakespeare production, other genres ranging from Greek Tragedy to contemporary works, four musicals, and four wekeends of musical theatre cabarets per year, as well as other faculty- and student-directed productions.

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a major in Philosophy and Religion. If a student has a first major that requires a Bachelor of Science or other bachelor's degree, the department may approve the Philosophy and Religion major as a second major under the B.S. or other bachelor's degree.

Majors and minors have the option of blending courses between philosophy and religion. Graduating majors will complete a traditional thesis with opportunities for public presentation and publication, or a culminating project with real-world focus and opportunities for practicum.

The Bachelor of Arts in music is comprised of a basic core of courses that provides a solid foundation in music. Through advisement, students can develop areas of additional interest such as applied music, music theory/composition, and music history. Minors may also be constructed in other disciplines.
