Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Bachelor of Science in Community and Environmental Planning is a professional degree program that prepares students for positions in local, state, and federal agencies, private companies, planning departments, engineering firms, as well as graduate school programs in planning. The program introduces students to the diversity of the planning profession while providing an understanding of the broader purpose of planning, and the opportunity to focus on practice and application through research and studio credits. The M.S. in Emergency and Threat Response Management meets the pressing need to fill national, state/regional, local, and international leadership gaps that exist in emergency management and homeland security while understanding the growing necessity to build resilience within a whole community approach. Using a multi-hazard approach to the management of disasters and crises, the curriculum balances theory and practice. The curriculum covers operations management, planning and response, civil unrest, and terrorism with additional options for the study of disaster public health and executive leadership. The degree provides students with a global outlook, interpersonal skills and emergency management knowledge and skills. Students will be prepared for emergency management positions in emergency management and homeland security in government and industry.

The Area Studies major invites students to learn about one region of the world from multiple disciplinary perspectives and to gain deep knowledge of that region, skill in a world language, and cultural competence.  All Area Studies majors select one of the following regional concentrations:  Asian Studies, European Studies, or Latin American Studies.  Their coursework focuses on the culture, politics, economics, literature, language(s), and history of their chosen region.  Students also consider their area of concentration—Asia, Europe, or Latin America—within a global frame.  The Area Studies major should appeal to students who want to pursue careers in business, education, advocacy, counseling or social work, law enforcement, government, media and the arts, translation or interpretation, and other sectors.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychological Science is a degree designed for students who are interested in pursuing research-oriented careers that may or may not require graduate level training such as experimental psychology .

Our curriculum is designed to provide our students with breadth and depth of knowledge in psychology as well as professional skills in research both inside and outside of the classroom. Along with other foundation courses, the degree requires a year-long research course sequence (i.e. Advance Research I and II) that provides students with the opportunity to conduct a human subjects research project from beginning to the end. The BS in Psychological Science major consists of 60 credits in psychology, 4 credits in Calculus, and 4 credits in Biological Science.

A  full range of theatre and dance production opportunities complements coursework and allows students to develop performance and production skills by creating live theatre.  All students may participate in the department's annual faculty-directed mainstage and/or student productions. These projects provide students with practical experience as performers, directors, designers and technicians, and enhances skills learned in the classroom.

Concentration in Musical Theatre
Become a well-rounded theater performer, not just a voice in a chorus. Meet with a private vocal instructor every semester for intensive singing lessons to best prepare you for auditions.

Music Industry majors can choose between two specializations: Music Technology and Music Business.
