The Chemical Engineering specialization emphasizes project management skills and industrially relevant research that prepares students for careers in high-tech fields. The Bachelor of Science in Community and Environmental Planning is a professional degree program that prepares students for positions in local, state, and federal agencies, private companies, planning departments, engineering firms, as well as graduate school programs in planning. The program introduces students to the diversity of the planning profession while providing an understanding of the broader purpose of planning, and the opportunity to focus on practice and application through research and studio credits. Students will gain exposure to the wide array of potential career opportunities within this field through the diverse experience of the full and part-time faculty members employed within the discipline. The planning curriculum at Rowan has a special focus on sustainable community design, land conservation, food systems and the specific planning practices and challenges of the region.

A useful background for students interested in careers in banking and financial institutions, government agencies, and consulting, our program focuses on learning to analyze the world in terms of tradeoffs and incentives — that is, to “think like an economist.”

As an economist, you will study people, firms, governments and markets. While economics can be linked to business, it also pairs well with other fields of study such as psychology, sociology, math, law, journalism and political science.

The Master of Science in Bioinformatics (M.S.) prepares our graduates with the skills to immediately contribute in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and biomedical fields. Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field of study that focuses on the use of computational information tools in the investigation and analysis of biological, biomedical, and biochemical systems. The industry uses information generated in the lab or clinic for future applications, research, and development.

This program includes the following three focus areas: Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, and Computer Science.

Rowan's Physics major balances general physics courses that develop analytical skills needed for any career direction with more advanced courses in highly technical areas. The department also offers coursework in astronomy and astrophysics. Personal attention is a hallmark of the program: enrollment in laboratory-based physics classes is limited to 24 students per section, and all lectures and labs are taught by faculty, not teaching assistants. In our junior-level Research Methods courses, students will have access to state-of-the-art equipment as they plan and execute a project under the direction of our research faculty. Physics majors can enter fields such as education, going on to teach at the secondary level, or pursue an advanced degree to become a college profesor and/or conduct research; others may enter fields such as busiess, computers, engineering, finance, law, and medicine.

Our Master of Arts in Mathematics provides an opportunity to pursue advanced study in mathematics and develop the skills to help lead you to success in today's technologically oriented society. Whether the goal involves applying mathematics to solve problems in business and industry, teaching in higher education, preparing for further graduate study in mathematics or related fields, or working in a rapidly the growing field of big data analysis as a statistician, this program enables each student to pursue a course of study that is appropriate for their interests.

To address these varying interests, we offer three concentrations: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is designed for careers in environmental consulting, management, science writing, or science education. While also rigorous, the BA is a more flexible pathway with enough free electives to permit a second major in areas such as Education, Communications, Environmental & Sustainability Studies, or Geology.

BA students integrate the foundations of biology, chemistry, physics and other core STEM disciplines with their understanding of environmental issues.
