The Africana Studies program at Rowan is devoted to the study of the historical and contemporary challenges, experiences, and contributions of Africans, African Americans, and people of African descent throughout the world. One of the program's greatest strengths is its unique interdisciplinary approach to global black studies that offers students an array of courses from 12 academic departments on campus. Students can major or double major in Africana Studies, or pursue a minor.

Southern New Jersey's fastest-growing demographic of minorities is a microcosm of America's increasingly diverse populations that live in majority-minority cities across the country. Our Master of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering provides interdisciplinary coursework designed to increase the understanding and application of engineering principles. All of our program faculty possess expertise in transportation, geo-technology, structures, water resources, and the environment. Courses include applied, hands-on education, and build the knowledge and training needed for students to contribute to the engineering field.

Interdisciplinary areas include mechanics and materials, and sustainability. This specialization also includes the following focus areas: Mechanics and Materials; Signals, Systems and Computational Intelligence; Sustainability; and Transportation Engineering.

Environmental and Sustainability Studies – let’s abbreviate it ESS – explores humanity's relationship with the natural world in order to help solve environmental problems. Environmental problems are a priority: in your town, across the state of New Jersey, throughout the US, and around the world. Without a strong and resilient environment, humans live shorter lives, have less productive economies, and miss out on the majesty of nature.

While science, technology, and engineering work has led to amazing tools for ‘fixing’ many of the environmental problems we currently face, the fact remains that these solutions are not always put into place. In other words, we already know how to solve many of the technical aspects of environmental problems we face; it is the human part that remains most challenging. You should study ESS if you want to understand the human context of environmental problems, and want to help implement meaningful, lasting solutions.

The Bachelor of Arts in Computing and Informatics is a new degree designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in information technology which requires a solid understanding of the principles of computing - but not the underpinnings of computer science theory and mathematics.

Concentrate on computer programming, infrastructure platforms, web application development, database implementations, or information security. Customize the program to suit your specific interests and abilities. We currently offer specializations in mobile devices and DevOp.

Our program is tailored for aspiring musicians who wish to make a career as a performer, conductor, or composer.

A  full range of theatre and dance production opportunities complements coursework and allows students to develop performance and production skills by creating live theatre.  All students may participate in the department's annual faculty-directed mainstage and/or student productions. These projects provide students with practical experience as performers, directors, designers and technicians, and enhances skills learned in the classroom.

Concentration in Design Technical
Intensively study set, light, costume and sound design along with stage management, technical theater, carpentry and electrics. Combine your class design experience with stage work on both our student-produced company and on our main stage while still a student!
