Economics is the study of how individuals, businesses, governments, and societies make decisions concerning the use and distribution of resources. It is the central science underlying business and public policies.

Our Bachelor of Science in economics emphasizes a broad understanding of how consumers' and producers' behavior is influenced by certain events—such as changes in interest rates or new government regulations. We offer two tracks of study. The primary track allows you to choose a minor to complement your study of economics and advance your career goals. Political science, finance, business administration, and foreign languages are common choices. The quantitative track is a specialized program designed to prepare you for graduate education in economics.

Biochemistry is the branch of science that explores the chemical processes within and related to living organisms. It is a laboratory-based science that brings together biology and chemistry. By using chemical knowledge and techniques, biochemists can understand and solve biological problems.

Biochemistry focuses on processes happening at a molecular level. It focuses on what’s happening inside our cells, studying components like proteins, lipids and organelles. Our Environmental Science major program is an interdisciplinary degree, incorporating studies such as soil science, physics, chemistry, biology and geology. Environmental solutions also frequently require mathematical expertise as well as specific knowledge of air, water and soil environments. Thus, the program is structured to educate environmental scientists broadly, but with considerable depth and flexibility.

The Master of Science in Data Science and Engineering program, offered on campus and online, prepares students to pursue careers in data science and engineering, where valuable insights are derived from massive amounts of raw data. Our high?quality curriculum offers an excellent balance between theory and application, equipping students with foundational skills and state?of?the?art technologies related to the next generation of big data applications.

On-campus students will be able to complete this graduate program in one to two years, while online students typically have up to six years to complete their coursework. This program blends graduate?level courses in core topics like data mining, machine learning, and statistical learning. The program also offers a wide variety of electives in addition to a required capstone experience, in which students apply their knowledge and skills to a real?world application scenario.

There are two formal options in the program: the data engineering option, administered by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, and the data science option, managed by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Both options are now available to online students.
