The agricultural communications major combines the study of agricultural sciences, practices and policy with the study of communications media and methods. Professional communicators in agriculture are vital to relaying crucial scientific or technical information from scientists to producers to businesses to consumers. As an agricultural communicator, your career may be in mass media, advertising, public relations, sales and marketing or government.

What you’ll Study
As an agricultural communications major, you’ll take basic agriculture classes as well as chemistry and biology to ensure your understanding of agricultural issues. You’ll also take a variety of classes through the School of Communications and Journalism and the English Department, including public relations, marketing, journalism, radio, television, film, digital media and technical writing. The major requires an internship or journalism workshop.

Our Department of Horticulture has been recognized nationally for its research programs, its student-centered faculty members and its high rate of employment for graduates. As a horticulture major, you’ll learn how to establish, propagate, harvest and manage fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. You’ll also learn the principles of landscape design to create and manage aesthetically pleasing environments.

Emphasis in Landscape Horticulture
The landscape horticulture major option track will provide you with the opportunity to combine the science of horticulture and your creative abilities in creating aesthetically beautiful, inviting and functional environments. You will learn valuable skills that will provide you with the competitive edge employers are looking for.

Landscape horticulturists use the principles of design and the appropriate plant material to create both residential and commercial landscapes.

Auburn's NASAD accredited Bachelor of Industrial Design Program is ranked in the top ten nationally and is known for product innovations, point of purchase design, marketing design, commercial environments and branding. Industry-sponsored collaborations and international experience are core strength of this nine-semester program which leads to a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree.

Our creative writing major is an exciting learning experience that spans multiple genres. You’ll take courses that focus on the “architecture” of stories, poems, and essays; learn how each piece works; and apply those lessons to the creation of your original work. Workshops, conferences, and discussions of craft are the focal point of classroom instruction.

Our Bachelor of Arts in public administration will prepare you for success in public service. You’ll develop the skills needed to assume major leadership roles in local, state, and national governments, community service groups, and non-profit organizations.
