Management will help you explore the many facets of organizational behavior, industrial and labor relations, as well as an appreciation and understanding of global management practices, among others. You can pursue these areas further through the human resource management concentration, international management concentration, or strategic leadership concentration.

Find great adventure in anthropology at LSU. Areas of study include archaeology, cultural anthropology, folklore, physical anthropology, and anthropological linguistics. You can participate firsthand in meaningful research, ranging from studies of contemporary communities to archaeological digs, that can have a real impact on the world.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study. 

Chemistry and Second Discipline
Through this concentration, you can develop your interests and abilities in other disciplines outside of chemistry, whether or not graduate education is contemplated. You may choose a second discipline such as computer science, biological sciences, geology, engineering, business administration, ecology, history, foreign languages, oceanography and coastal sciences, political science, sociology, and others.

Environmental engineering at LSU will provide you with a unique learning opportunity. Due to Louisiana’s economic activity from the Mississippi River, our unique coast and soil, the array of industry present here, and environmental challenges, such as hurricanes and storm surges, you will have a canvas like no other to research and practice. Environmental engineers are not only concerned with local and regional issues, but work on problems of global significance, including the world water and sanitation crisis, the impacts of population growth, and climate change. They are responsible for municipal water supply and wastewater treatment in urban and rural areas. Environmental engineers also work to reduce risk from hazardous materials in the environment by designing safe disposal and remediation methods for contaminated soil, sediment, and water. Specialization tracks include sustainability, coastal engineering, and a “flex” track, which allows students to tailor their focus to meet individual career goals. Graduates pursue careers in governmental organizations, nonprofits, and industry, or they may serve as external consultants for any of these entities.

The screen arts program gives you the opportunity to study the history, theory, and practice of film and media, approaching the field as both an industry and an art. With classes ranging from critical analysis to hands-on film production, you will be prepared to enter the growing film industry in Louisiana or to go on for further graduate work in film school and master’s or PhD programs.

Dive headfirst into a whole new world of literature and creation in this major. The English major offers subjects ranging from Beowulf to box office hits. English faculty and students are frequent participants in summer study abroad programs in places like Great Britain and Ireland.

Creative Writing: Get the background you need to create the next great literary work right here at LSU. The program gives students the opportunity to hone their craft as writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and hybrid genres while also offering chances to study drama and screenwriting.

Learn about nutrition and the research, development, packaging, and distribution of our food supply. At LSU, you will participate in hands-on learning, professional development, and faculty-led research to prepare for a health-related profession or career in business or agriculture.

Food Science and Technology: This curriculum follows the National Institute of Food Technologists guidelines to provide a strong basic foundation for the study of post-production properties and processing of food products.

• Literature: The literature concentration will allow you to stretch your mind and find new meaning in everything you read. It emphasizes reading, interpreting, and placing imaginative literature in a variety of interpretive contexts.

Civil engineers work on the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure systems we use every day and/or in surveying and coastal subsidence projects. Sub-disciplines include: mechanics of materials (steel, concrete, timber, pavement etc.), structures (bridges, buildings, etc.), water resources (rivers, levees, etc.), transportation (traffic systems, highways, and roadways), geotechnical (soils, foundations, and coastal subsidence), and geodesy (surveying). Graduates may work for structural design firms or the petrochemical industry, but often work for government entities such as the Department of Transportation or U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
