The Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences offers two constantly updated concentrations: information technology, for students interested in designing, programming, and testing website applications and building database systems; and business intelligence, for students interested in analytics.

Dive headfirst into a whole new world of literature and creation in this major. The English major offers subjects ranging from Beowulf to box office hits. English faculty and students are frequent participants in summer study abroad programs in places like Great Britain and Ireland.

Creative Writing: Get the background you need to create the next great literary work right here at LSU. The program gives students the opportunity to hone their craft as writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and hybrid genres while also offering chances to study drama and screenwriting.

Through the study and performance of communication, you will learn how we form, maintain, and transform language, communication tools, and meaning.

Forest Enterprise: Learn about the business aspects of forestry and wood products. Forestry is the largest agricultural sector in Louisiana, and forest products and enterprises contribute greatly to local, state, and national economies.

In this major, you can study political topics ranging from healthcare reform to international diplomacy. Through this exploration, you will develop knowledge and analytical skills that can help you succeed in a career in public policy, city management, and law.

Study ways to improve crops and discover new crossbreeds of plants, and learn the latest approaches to the cultivation, marketing, and processing of ornamental plants, fruits, and vegetables. Topics include soil science and conservation, ornamentals and grasses, urban landscape management, sustainable horticulture, and much more.

Turf & Landscape Management: From football fields to suburban landscapes, study the applications of turf and ornamental grass, pest identification and control, landscape design, small engine maintenance, and financial management. Also learn about the construction of landscape sites, including planting and maintaining woody and herbaceous plants and other herbaceous crops.

The child and family studies undergraduate degree at LSU combines elements of psychology and sociology with an applied focus that prepares students for an array of human services professions across the lifespan. Computer science involves programming computing devices, creating information systems, engineering new products, visualizing and creating imagery, working with data infrastructure and networks, and protecting information through cybersecurity Concentrations include cloud computing and networking, computer science and a second discipline, cybersecurity, data science and analytics, and software engineering. Many graduates go on to become software engineers/developers, but other job titles include cybersecurity specialist, network designer, entrepreneur, web developer, and more.

In sociology, you will discover and explain patterns of human behavior. You will learn how society functions and how you function within society. You may also elect to follow the department’s concentration in criminology.
