The MA in Secondary Education (SEED) prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of adolescents in grades 9 through 12. This intensive, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families in the subject areas of biology, business, chemistry, English, history, and math. It provides opportunities to earn a combination of Illinois teaching credentials prior to the completion of the MA degree, including the middle school endorsement.

Mathematics is a beautiful and interesting subject that will help you gain analytical and problem-solving skills. Mathematicians are problem solvers that combine a deep knowledge of statistics, numbers, functions, shapes, structures and their interconnections to solve real world problems. This program has been designed to offer students the opportunity to major in both traditional and emerging financial fields. Course offerings give students a broad exposure to contemporary issues in the financial world. Courses in finance have been designed to meet the following objectives:

• Teach the concepts and skills necessary to provide funds for a business and to control, plan and evaluate the flow of funds through the enterprise
• Provide advanced education in business finance to those seeking employment in corporate finance, banking, securities exchanges and personal financial planning

The Master of Science in Biotechnology and Chemical Science (BTCS) prepares students for work in a variety of professional settings, including the food science, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, or for academic research and graduate study. The program is appropriate for students holding a baccalaureate degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related sciences, or for those who have taken the prerequisite undergraduate courses. Chemical Science is one of three concentrations within the program.

Students who earn their Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise, Nutrition and Health Science are provided the health education needed to become future leaders in the sport, exercise and nutrition industry.

International studies is a growing interdisciplinary field that offers students the opportunity to study politics, economics, history, sociology, anthropology and communication as parts of a complex and evolving global system. Rather than focusing just on relations between states in the international system, the international studies major affords students the opportunity to create a focus on particular geographic areas of the world, the evolution of the international system itself, or on global race, gender and activism.

As the world becomes more reliant on internet-based technologies, there is high demand for professionals trained in information security. Roosevelt’s Bachelor of Science in Cyber and Information Security program is designated a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Sociology, like the other social sciences, focuses on human behavior and what it means to be human in constantly evolving social interactions that are part of personal identity, group behavior, and collective action. What distinguishes sociology is its emphasis on social structure as a means of analyzing and interpreting behavior, and the systematic study of the development, structures, institutions, and patterns of social interaction. A degree in sociology provides students with analytical skills, the ability to design research projects, and real insight into the human condition that can lead to successful careers in nonprofit organizations, social services, public services, education, government, sales, marketing, and administrative management. The BA in Sociology also prepares students for graduate study in sociology, as well as law, psychology, social work, and medicine.
