The study of history is critical to the creation of a just society. Like Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, for whom our University is named, our history master’s program encourages students to take this ethos and put it to work as teachers and experts across a variety of fields. Students in the MA program have the option to earn an additional certificate at a partner institution for work in archives or other institutions devoted to preservation of historical resources.

The Bachelor's in Journalism and Media Studies degree is a mix of hands-on professional courses and theoretical courses that allows students a choice between two related but distinct concentrations. Students in the journalism concentration will complete coursework in online, broadcast and print journalism and are thus prepared for work in today's multimedia news environment. Students in the media studies concentration gain the objective knowledge, tools and skills to analyze, evaluate and create messages using all forms of media technologies to prepare for graduate study as well as for work in the media industries and careers involving mediated communications.

A graduate degree track offered in collaboration between Roosevelt University and the Music Institute of Chicago, the Master of Music Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy is available to qualified violinists, violists, cellists and flutists. The degree combines advanced performance and academic studies with in-depth studies of Suzuki Education and development of teaching skills through observations, practicum and apprentice teaching. Also offered is a Certificate in Suzuki Pedagogy, designed for skilled musicians who already have or are not interested in pursuing a master’s degree, but have a strong interest in teaching as a vocation and commitment to Suzuki Education.

The BA in Music and Computing is an interdisciplinary degree that provides students with the specific tools and methods to study both music composition and computer programming. The goal of this program is for students to create and explore music software, music authoring systems, algorithmic composition, video game music and similar projects.

This is a joint degree where students take approximately equal credit hours from each discipline (Music Composition and Computer Science), in addition to general studies.

The Jazz and Contemporary Music program develops students' improvisation abilities and helps each student realize her or his unique voice as a performer and as an arranger/composer.

Music education students at CCPA come from all over the world to experience Chicago and develop their music teaching practice. Students enroll in degree plans with a choral or instrumental focus but all music education majors develop well-rounded knowledge and skills through methods courses in general music, choir, band, and orchestra as well as techniques and conducting courses. Students have access to a wide spectrum of school settings that help them relate real-life teaching situations to their coursework.

Roosevelt's economics faculty are dedicated to using economics to address problems of unemployment, poverty, income and wealth inequality, social justice, global climate change, and inequality amongst nations. Roosevelt is one of the few universities in the United States where students can study economics from heterodox points of view. A commitment to pluralism, intellectual tolerance, and diversity of thought and method are essential to the Roosevelt approach to economics. Courses at Roosevelt include eclectic, institutionalist, Post Keynesian, feminist, and Marxist approaches to economic analysis in addition to standard Neoclassical and Keynesian approaches. Our objective is not to replace one orthodoxy with another but rather to encourage students to view economics as an evolving discipline that can help them make sense of the world around them and succeed in a rewarding career.

Radiation therapy technologists are involved in direct patient care. Under the supervision of radiation oncologists, they use high energy X-rays, electron beams or radioactive isotopes to kill cancer cells. Radiation therapists must be able to interact compassionately and effectively with people who range from healthy to terminally ill. This is a 3+1 program in which the first three years of course work are completed at Roosevelt University with the final year completed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The BA in Early Childhood Education (ECHD) prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of children from birth to third grade. This intensive, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It leads to a combination of Illinois teaching credentials.

The BA in Education and Youth Studies prepares undergraduates to support the learning and socio-emotional needs of school-age youth (five through sixteen) and their families in roles that do not require teacher licensure, such as teaching assistant, coordinator of tutoring, and student support specialist. This field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It leads to employment credentials that are recognized by schools and non-profit community organizations, and is excellent preparation for careers in counseling, human services and non-profit public administration.
