The mission of the UCF Department of Mathematics is to offer the opportunity for excellence and development to students with visionary and relevant programs of high quality at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to advance mathematical research to benefit society. To accomplish this mission the faculty and the staff of the department have set high goals. The department aims to provide the best undergraduate mathematics program in the state of Florida. We offer doctoral and masters programs that encourages student to develop into mathematicians. We also foster a dedication to world-class research by faculty and students at all levels in a broad variety of areas of mathematics.

A BS in Computer Science degree emphasizes the mathematical and theoretical foundations of computing, rather than teaching specific technologies. It provides the foundation you need to break into some of the most exciting and profitable careers. Prepare for opportunities in a variety of fields, including robotics, computer gaming, virtual reality, computer vision, media convergence, digital, evolutionary computing, computer architecture and so much more.

Housed in the L3Harris Engineering Center, the computer science program has classrooms and high-tech innovative lab spaces where cutting-edge research is performed covering a wide range of topics. These labs include the Siemens Digital Grid Laboratory and a planned 360-degree augmented-virtual reality lab space.

The Sociology degree, which may be completed online, face-to-face, or as a mix of online and face-to-face courses, has two major goals: 1) to promote undergraduate student excellence and 2) to advance career success for graduates by providing them with tangible, career-oriented skills. A dedicated faculty offers state-of-the-art courses that are relevant to current issues affecting our students' lives and their future careers. Graduates are prepared for careers that require employees who think critically and have analytic and technical skills related to understanding crime, law, and deviance; medical sociology; diversity and inequalities; and/or mass culture and collective behavior. All students complete individual, original research projects.

Interdisciplinary Studies is a university-wide program leading to either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, depending on the concentration of work selected in consultation with an Interdisciplinary Studies advisor. The program is administered through the Interdisciplinary Studies Department and is designed for academic flexibility. It recognizes that there are many combinations of courses that meet the needs of individual students.

An information technology degree from UCF prepares you to drive efficiency and productivity throughout businesses — providing them with better service and value. You’ll gain an understanding about maintaining computer equipment and software, as well as the skills to help improve business processes and innovative ways to use information resources to serve customers. Courses cover how to create, manage and support information in a variety of forms, arming you with the skills necessary in today’s technically-focused workplace.

Take what you learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world experiences through internships at leading tech companies, from Central Florida Research Park to downtown Orlando. This hands-on work is a great way to build your technical skills and demonstrate your communication, teamwork and leadership abilities.

The study of human communication allows students to develop critical thinking skills, an understanding of cultural and gender-related differences in how people communicate, and it sharpens their marketable skills such as writing, public speaking and persuasion.

Students with a B.A. in human communication pursue jobs in a wide range of industries including management, sales, human resources, higher education (admissions and student services), marketing and training. Many students also continue their education in graduate school, law school and business or professional graduate degree programs.

Students must choose one track from the following: General Human Communication, Business and Professional Communication, Health Communication, Interpersonal Communication, or Social Innovation and Activism.

In the secondary education program at UCF, learn about developing pedagogy and content knowledge to meet the needs of students in middle and high school classrooms. You’ll explore a variety of current technologies used for teaching and learning, like practicing your skills with TeachLivE avatars. Plus, there are a number of different professional development opportunities and organizations to get involved in while you’re here. For instance, KnightED Talks workshops are free, hour-long events that cover a range of topics related to the teaching profession and are conducted by university faculty and K-12 educators. There’s also an annual KnightEd Talks Student Showcase where you can share your best work with peers during a 30-minute session in an in-house conference venue.

The management major combines theory and application, with a focus on problem solving, group projects, and case analysis. The curriculum prepares students for leadership roles in a variety of organizations, including: large and small, public and private, for profit and non-for-profit. The program can also accommodate students who wish to embark on their own entrepreneurial ventures. Students majoring in management should possess strong quantitative skills, enjoy problem solving, and embrace working with people. Not eligible for a double degree with another College of Business Administration major.

The purpose of the Accounting B.S.B.A. degree is to prepare students to successfully gain admittance to our Accounting M.S.A. graduate degree program and become Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Not eligible for a double degree with another College of Business Administration major.
