Through the Discover Arts and Discover Sciences programs, students take a seminar acquainting them with the University and the College. The seminar will cover the curriculum and careers of each program, as well as the multitude of complementary minors. Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

As a student in the Interdisciplinary Educational Studies program at the University of Dayton, you’ll have the flexibility to chart your own path to success and design a program to meet your diverse professional goals.
Candidates must select concentration coursework from both the School of Education and Health Sciences and at least one department outside SEHS.

Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy
Our students develop professional skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to provide effective and compassionate therapy for individuals of all ages. Graduates are prepared to assess client needs and design and facilitate individualized therapeutic music experiences in composing, listening, improvising and performing. An integral part of the curriculum is supervised clinical service to individuals and groups in a variety of community settings, including skilled nursing care, early intervention programs, substance use rehabilitation and special needs classrooms.

Geologists study the Earth’s materials, structures and processes, and how they have changed over the 4.6 billion years of the Earth’s history. In doing so, geologists address some of society’s most important problems, such as finding energy, water and mineral resources; environmental pollution and its prevention; and natural hazards such as landslides, volcanoes and earthquakes.

Recent graduates are employed as scientists in academia, industry and government, or pursuing postgraduate education. In addition to our rigourous academic program, students can work side-by-side with faculty on research projects such as discovering novel inhibitors of bacterial efflux pumps as a way to combat multi-drug resistance in bacteria, studying biodegradation of polymer coatings, and discovering new photodynamic lung cancer treatments.
