Sociology is the systematic study of human social life. The B.A. in sociology provides students with the basic tools of sociological analysis including social research methods (both quantitative and qualitative) and theory. The curriculum in sociology equips students to more effectively negotiate the diverse society in which we live by addressing social inequalities, culture, community development, social institutions, and social change.

The study of classics includes every aspect of the ancient Mediterranean world, with exploration of ancient languages, literatures, history, art, and archaeology.

Classics majors gain a complex view of the ancient Mediterranean world and explore their own world as they do so. They address questions of human and historical significance through the works of the Greeks and Romans; understand the modern cultural world by recognizing its roots in the past; know their own language better by learning Greek or Latin; explore the world through study abroad; and strengthen their ability to read, communicate, observe, and think analytically.

The B.A. in classics is an interdisciplinary degree involving the study of ancient Greek and Latin, literature in translation, history, classical archaeology, and art history.

Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They explore the relationship between language and social factors such as region, ethnicity, gender, and identity; and how language is acquired and changes over time.

The study of linguistics, often referred to as the "science of language," provides students with an understanding of the sound systems, words, and sentence structures of language, both individually and comparatively.

The M.B.A. exposes students to a variety of subjects, including statistics, economics, organizational behavior, business communication, marketing, financial strategy, operations management, and information technology management. The M.B.A. is available as either a Campus program or as a professional program. The campus M.B.A. can be taken on either a full-time or part-time basis with all courses offered in the evenings and on the Oxford Campus. The professional M.B.A. is designed for working business professionals and involves a variety of online technological delivery modes

History majors at the University of Mississippi take a range of courses across American and European history as well as history of other regions. They take at least one advanced research course where they utilize primary resources to address questions of historical importance.

The study of history explores our shared and diverse past, providing an essential context and perspective on the contemporary world. Studying history enhances a student's ability to think and reason, to communicate effectively, and to organize systematically, evaluate, and interpret information. These are essential skills demanded of today's young professionals and graduate students.

The B.A. in psychology prepares students for careers in which a fuller understanding of human behavior is needed or to enter graduate programs in psychology and professional schools such as law and medicine. Students learn the scientific approach to the study of human and animal behavior, and can take courses in a variety of subfields, such as social, cognitive, personality, abnormal, developmental, and behavioral neuroscience. Students also learn the research process: experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

Seek to understand what motivates people and why people behave the way they do.

Psychology majors at the University of Mississippi learn the scientific approach to the study of human and animal behavior, and can take courses in a variety of subfields, such as social, cognitive, personality, abnormal, developmental, and behavioral neuroscience. They also learn the research process: experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

A B.A. in biological science can prepare a student for a variety of careers or for graduate work in many fields, including organismal biology, medicine, education, cell or molecular biology, ecology, and conservation biology.

A Bachelor of Science in Geology allows students to study the composition and structure of the earth, earth history (environments and life), natural hazards (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanism, etc), mineral and energy extraction, surface and groundwater, ocean processes, and more.

Study the earth, the materials of which it is made, their structure and the processes acting upon them

Geologists study the earth – its history, its composition and processes, as well as potential hazards such as earthquakes, volcanos, landslides and climate change.

With a geology degree, you can find a job in energy, mining, environmental consulting, government research and regulation. And, you’ll likely find yourself spending part of your workday outdoors – in swamps, mountains, forests, desert plains and out at sea.

The B.S. degree in physics is recommended for students wishing to go to graduate school in physics. It also prepares a student for teaching physics, for graduate or professional schools, such as law school or education school, and for jobs in technical fields. Students interested in teaching high school physics may need a secondary education certification along with the degree.
