The B.S. in biological science prepares a student for a variety of careers or for graduate work in many fields, including organismal biology, medicine, education, cell or molecular biology, ecology and conservation biology. This is the degree of choice for those aspiring to be professional scientists.

The B.S. in chemical engineering provides the student with a fundamental knowledge of chemical engineering science and prepares graduates for a variety of careers in industry and government, or for advanced study in engineering, business, or professional school.

Chemical engineers bring together chemistry, mathematics, physics and engineering principles to discover solutions to real-world challenges in  pharmaceuticals, food, personal care products, petrochemicals and in many other industries

With a chemical engineering degree, you will be ready to pursue careers in manufacturing, petrochemicals, oil and gas, biotechnology, the environmental field and more. Your degree can also pave the way to top graduate programs in medicine, business, law and advanced engineering fields.

You can choose the standard track, the pre-med track or one of the following emphases:

• Biotechnology – this includes the study and use of biological processes to make advancements in fields as diverse as drugs, agriculture and food.

• Manufacturing – you’ll learn the skills to improve processes and productivity in advanced manufacturing environments.

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (B.S.B.E.) degree program will prepare engineering students at the University of Mississippi to capably apply advanced mathematics, science, and engineering to solve the problems at the interface of engineering, biology, and medicine. Moreover, the curriculum will prepare graduates with the ability to make measurements on and interpret data from living systems, addressing the problems associated with the interaction between living and nonliving materials and systems.

The graduates of the program will be able to pursue (i) employment in biomedical or related industries (ii) graduate studies in biomedical engineering or related disciplines, and (iii) pursue professional careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or patent law.

You can choose one of three academic tracks in our biomedical engineering program:

• Biomolecular engineering – brings together the study of molecular biology, biophysics and chemical engineering to modify or create new molecules. This can lead you to a job working on innovative drugs and medical processes, as well as new foods and fuels.
• Biomedical systems – provides you with an understanding of medical instrumentation, devices and biomechanics. You’ll also learn about signal analysis, using technology and other tools to better understand a person’s health.
• Bioinformatics – applies big data analytics to genome sequencing, medical imaging and large data management. This degree can start you down the path for a career in computational medical research, software development or database management.

The Bachelor of Music curriculum prepares students to become professional musicians or vocalists, to teach music at the K-12 levels, or for graduate or professional school. Students select a concentration in instrumental, keyboard, or vocal training.

The B.M. in music is offered for students seeking a university education that includes preparation for careers in music teaching or performance. The B.M. degree is available in the following emphases: music performance and music education.

The B.M. in music with emphasis in music education prepares students for certification in the following fields: instrumental (band or orchestra; students may choose any woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instrument as the principal instrument); vocal/choral music; keyboard. Separate course requirements are given as three concentrations: instrumental, vocal, or keyboard as principal instrument.

Students may earn a degree in economics at the University of Mississippi three different ways: the Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in economics, the Bachelor of Arts in economics, and the new, more technical Bachelor of Science in economics. The quantitative B.S. degree is more suitable for those who wish to prepare for graduate study in economics. At its core, computer science involves the rigorous study of processes, a series of actions to achieve some desired result. In particular, it is the study of processes carried out by computers. Computer science students learn how to define processes and encode them so that they can be carried out efficiently by computers. This involves such tasks as determining what result is needed (systems analysis), developing efficient and flexible software to encode the process (algorithm design, programming, and software engineering), and organizing the data needed and generated by the process (data structures and database management). They also learn how to use the technologies of computers, communication technologies, and the control programs work together to effectively achieve the desired results.
