Our Chemical Engineering graduate program is ranked in the top 30 nationally by the National Research Council and ranked 14th nationally in federally funded chemical research and development by the National Science Foundation.

Chemical engineering at UofSC boasts state-of-the-art facilities, a dynamic faculty and rigorous research programs. Incentives for our Ph.D. candidates are the wide selection of research topics, full tuition waiver and high 12-month stipends. Full-time Ph.D. student stipends currently are in excess of $28,000 per year with tuition and partial health insurance support paid by the university. NSF Fellows and other students with similar fellowships can receive stipends totaling over $42,000 per year.

Public relations professionals communicate messages clearly and effectively. Public relations majors learn how to deliver the message for government agencies, businesses, organizations and industries on a local level and in the global arena.

As a public relations major, you will develop strong writing and account management skills through interactive classes and extensive writing assignments. You'll learn how to create campaigns, write press releases and manage events as you develop your public relations acumen. You will work collaboratively with your classmates and be encouraged to participate activities like The Carolina Agency, our student-run advertising and public relations agency. You also have the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in supervised internships. And as a senior in your capstone experience, you will create a comprehensive public relations campaign for an actual client. These real-life experiences will help prepare you for entry-level positions upon graduation.

Our criminal justice program promotes state-of-the-art research and instruction in subject areas that are crucial to the effective and orderly working of modern society.

You will learn theories of and responses to social deviance, law and the legal system, administration theory and evaluation, law enforcement, juvenile justice systems and procedures, and crime prevention models. You will also be able to attend numerous conferences and lectures to broaden your professional perspective.

As a criminal justice major, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on internship experience that will add to your educational experience. You can gain additional experience by participating in the Campus Patrol Office program, which offers students who qualify an opportunity to gain hands-on experience as an employee of the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety. As a student in the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Information Technology program, you will perfect your information technology and communication skills, and you will develop an understanding of business and technological issues. During your freshman and sophomore years, you'll take required university courses such as English, history, foreign language, fine arts and social science, as well as core courses in your major. In your junior and senior years, you'll complete major courses including networking, database management, visual programming and project management. You'll round off your academic career with a senior capstone project class and an industry internship, positioning yourself for a leadership role in any business setting.

Do you want to write beautiful stories, expose wrongdoing and master the digital world through print media? Or perhaps instead, you see yourself delivering information through radio or television broadcasting. No matter the medium, your job is to find the truth and tell compelling stories that make a difference down the street and across the world.

As a journalism major — either broadcast or multimedia — you will be exposed to challenging courses that aim to prepare you for a career in major markets across the globe. As a senior, you will work to create daily newscasts in a state-of-the-art newsroom or will work to create content for an online and print newspaper.

Journalism courses concentrate on news gathering. You will also be trained in online print and digital media. As with other majors in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, you will be encouraged to gain additional educational experiences through internships in media outlets. As a senior, you will be in the newsroom producing content for Carolina News and Reporter.

All journalism majors will develop the skills necessary to conduct research, gather information, write clearly and correctly, and present relevant news or persuasive information at the professional level.
