A graduate degree in electrical engineering can improve your career by equipping you to work on advanced projects or enabling you to transition to a new career in research or teaching.  Electrical Engineering at UofSC has advanced facilities, labs, computing and simulation infrastructure to allow students to carry out research activities.

We offer paid research assistantships and tuition for full-time Ph.D. students. Prospective students may also apply and receive national or international fellowships like the NSF Graduate Fellowship, National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, or fellowships from international entities and governments to support their Ph.D. program of study. M.S. students may also apply and receive very limited teaching assistantships or research assistantships, depending on the availability of funds. M.E. students are normally self-supported or supported by their governments, employers, or sponsors.

Chemists are in great demand today in industry, government and university laboratories. Studying the areas of general, analytical, biological, inorganic and physical chemistry, as well as interdivisional courses, our graduates are positioned to excel in their careers.

As a chemistry major, you will be exposed to outstanding undergraduate research opportunities, which open a new world of career opportunities for students. You will be able to take courses in popular fields such as environmental, forensic and aquatic chemistry. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry will develop a strong base for continued study in medical, dental, pharmacy and other professional schools. Students who choose the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with the American Chemical Society Certification will develop the skills necessary for a career in chemistry.

As a public relations major, you will develop strong writing and account management skills through interactive classes and extensive writing assignments. You'll learn how to create campaigns, write press releases and manage events as you develop your public relations acumen. You will work collaboratively with your classmates and be encouraged to participate activities like The Carolina Agency, our student-run advertising and public relations agency. You also have the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in supervised internships. And as a senior in your capstone experience, you will create a comprehensive public relations campaign for an actual client. These real-life experiences will help prepare you for entry-level positions upon graduation.

Operations and supply chain explores the analytical use of information in business management, and is distinguished by the opportunity for students to receive Lean Six Sigma green-belt certification.

The Operations and Supply Chain program at the Darla Moore School of Business pairs a robust classroom environment and real-world, experiential learning to provide students with the skills to systematically analyze data and improve business processes.

What makes our program stand out from the rest is the opportunity for our students to get the actual Lean Six Sigma green-belt certification from the industry through a rigorous coverage of Lean Six Sigma approach to supply chain and operations management, a formal written green-belt exam from Sonoco (a $4 billion global manufacturing company based in Hartsville, S.C.) and completion of a major certified project in one of our center partner firms to meet the project requirement for green-belt certification. There is no other program that provides such a rich opportunity in Lean Six Sigma certification from industry to its undergraduate students in business.

As a public health major, you will develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to address current and emerging public health issues. You will learn to demonstrate proficient reasoning and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information to make sound decisions and solve problems as they apply to public health.

As a student in the only school of public health in the state of South Carolina, you will discover quality learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. In fact, the Arnold School of Public Health leads the university in extramural funding per tenure-track faculty members and is a major contributor to the university's recognition by the Carnegie Foundation as an institution of both "high community service activity" and "high research activity.

Are you interested in learning about some of the most pressing social issues of the day, such as immigration, discrimination, economic and social inequality, demographic change, race and ethnic relations, and health and well-being? If so, our sociology program may be right for you. You can pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in sociology or continue your learning by pursuing the accelerated bachelor's/graduate study plan, in which you receive a master's degree in sociology. The department offers graduate degrees at the master's and doctoral levels.

As a sociology major, you will explore complex issues of power, inequality, identity and conflict across a variety of different social groups and social institutions, such as schools, families and law enforcement. You will also learn to question common wisdoms, raise important questions, examine arguments, synthesize information, analyze data, make conclusions and present arguments supported by empirical research and sociological theory, both orally and in writing.

As part of your learning, you will be able to take advantage of outstanding facilities that include the Laboratory for Sociological Research, one of the largest facilities of its type in the world, and a statistics laboratory. You can also develop your own research project or collaborate with faculty members on a project and participate in department events, including guest speaker presentations and workshops.

In an age of rapid changes in new knowledge and technologies, public health professionals require a broad education that emphasizes problem-solving skills and an understanding of ethical behavior. The Arnold School offers two undergraduate degree programs in public health. While both programs share similar core requirements, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree places more emphasis on social and behavioral sciences for entry into social science-based graduate programs such as law school.

As a geological sciences major, laboratory experience and field-based activities will enhance the vibrant and friendly academic environment. You will focus on the study of the Earth's dynamics and history, as well as its composition and the chemical, physical and biological changes that it undergoes. You can also choose to pursue a concentration in environmental geosciences.

The department offers a broad range of specialties within geosciences such as sedimentology, stratigraphy and basin evolution; tectonics and structural geology; environmental geology and hydrogeology; igneous and metamorphic petrology; geophysics and seismology; oceanography, coastal and estuarine processes; paleoecology; and paleoclimatology.

You will also have the unique opportunity to complete a four-week field course in Colorado to get valuable hands-on experience. This opportunity synergizes your education in geology to understanding the Earth's formation in an observational setting.
