If you're interested in more applied quantitative or qualitative skills in conducting policy analysis, we recommend the Policy Analytic Methods concentration.

If you have an interest in the policy process and politics (i.e., drafting legislation, political advocacy/strategy, lobbying, etc), we recommend the Policy Process, Politics and Institutions concentration.

Quantitative Tools
Policy analysis requires strong quantitative skills and analytical thinking. This concentration will help you master your understanding of how numbers work, how population and demographic changes affect policy, and what factors may need to be accounted for when policy decisions are made.

Learn how to analyze probabilities, risks and potential outcomes. You will master mathematical theory and apply your knowledge to solve financial problems as an actuary. UAlbany's bachelor’s in actuarial and mathematical sciences program will prepare you for a career in areas including insurance, pension, finance, government and business.

If you want to become a certified public accountant but didn’t earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting, the 21-month MS in Accounting program at UAlbany can help you achieve your goal.

Designed for students with no prior background in accounting or business, this cohort-based program includes four semesters of full-time study that fulfill the education criteria required to obtain initial licensure as a certified public accountant in New York State. (A part-time option is also available for this program. Full-time requires availability days and evenings, Monday-Friday).

Coursework covers management fundamentals, in-depth study of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and practical training in contemporary accounting software and emerging technologies. Advanced topics include liabilities, assets, and income tax; auditing and internal controls; and budgeting and cost-profit analysis. In your last semester, you complete an academic research seminar.
