The American Studies Program at Geneseo is designed to acquaint you with the challenges and diversity of the American experience, past and present. The program offers structured knowledge of our culture's many dimensions. The program in American Studies also allows you the opportunity to pursue an interesting, diversified, yet coherent liberal arts program, one that can serve as the basis for lifelong learning.

American Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to American culture that affords the student substantial flexibility in creating his or her collegiate experience.

Several advantages of this unique flexibility

• Many of the college’s General Education requirements can be fulfilled while simultaneously completing the American Studies minor.
• American Studies can easily accommodate a double major in disciplines such as English and History.
• American Studies is an excellent choice for students interested graduate school. The program stresses coursework in disciplines that develop the analytic, writing and research skills necessary for professional success. Programs in law, museum studies, library science, and other graduate fields desire well-rounded and capable applicants.

(Bachelor of Science) Students in the Applied Physics B.S. program go on to graduate schools in engineering and related fields.  Students with the Applied Physics B.S. degree are well-prepared to enter the workforce in a technical area immediately following graduation.

The Women's and Gender Studies major at SUNY Geneseo is a multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary program designed to be flexible to accommodate multiple focuses. It includes feminist analyses of the construction and enforcement of gender differences and gender inequalities in various contexts, with an emphasis on the intersection of gender with race, class, sexuality, and nationality in the lives of women. Students are encouraged to apply what they learn in Women's Studies classrooms to other areas of their lives. All students take a core set of Women's Studies courses plus at least one course in five content areas in which the study of women and gender provide significant insights, using feminist methodologies and pedagogy. Additionally, each student completes a three-course sequence in one of the clusters and completes a capstone experience designed to apply concepts from the Women's Studies Program toward their future career goals.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Black Studies is designed for students who want to take an interdisciplinary approach to their education. By working closely with faculty advisors, students in this major design an individualized program of courses, and internship experiences.

The minor in Africana Studies is designed to provide interdisciplinary approaches to the experiences of peoples of African descent in Africa, in the Americas, and throughout the African diaspora. The minor will enable Geneseo students not only to broaden their perception of cultural diversity but to gain a deeper understanding of cultures. Students will draw knowledge from the humanities, the social sciences, the arts, and other fields of learning that will prepare them to begin to face some of the challenges of "living in an increasingly global and diverse world

The Business Administration major prepares students for success in business by combing a liberal arts core with a strong foundation in accounting, economics, marketing, finance, management, and international business. Through numerous projects, group presentations, and case analyses business administration students develop the quantitative, analytical, and communication skills essential to successful business careers today and well into the future.  Internships and hands-on learning experiences round out the program giving the students confidence to solve complex problems and add value to a company from day one. When combined with one of the School of Business minors, students are well prepared to enter careers in a wide array of professions.

Neuroscience may well be the most complex and intriguing research field of our generation. The field of neuroscience is highly integrative, incorporating the rigors of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, with the less tangible complex behavioral research of psychology. Other research that contributes to neuroscience can include findings from sociology, anthropology, and computer sciences. In turn, neuroscience has made valuable contributions to each of these fields, as well as to a wide range of health professions.

While the idea of being educated in a field of study that boasts such a broad information base may seem appealing, to be successful students must be capable of grasping this wide range of information.  Perhaps more importantly, students must be able to incorporate basic information from these contributing fields into a larger framework of understanding the relationship between the brain and behavior.

With the option of pursuing a B.A. in geology, geochemistry, or geophysics, students at SUNY Geneseo are exposed to challenging and rewarding curriculum taught by accomplished faculty with a broad range of expertise. Alums of the SUNY Geneseo Department of Geological Sciences have gone on to pursue graduate degrees at Stanford, Scripps, Texas A&M, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Arizona, and other universities, to become recognized leaders in their field. Below is a list of the geological sciences programs at Geneseo.

Bachelor of Arts Students in the Physics B.A. program are well-prepared for graduate study in physics, engineering, and other technical fields.  Many students in this program also enter the workforce immediately after graduation in commercial and/or industrial jobs.  The Physics B.A. degree is required  for students pursuing Certification in Secondary Education (7-12): Physics and General Science.

This past fall, he was selected as a Fellow with the US Government's Presidential Management Fellowship through the Executive Office of the President's Office of Personnel Management. Starting in July, Peter will begin his Federal Appointment at the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), as a Health Policy and Legislative Analyst, working with the US Congress and other Federal Agencies on Federal Health Policy Implementation and Evaluation. At Geneseo, Peter was actively involved in the many various activities throughout both the Anthropology and Biology Departments including Lambda Alpha Honor Society, was a member of the SUNY Geneseo Chamber Singers and Festival Choir, and served as a Teaching Assistant for both Dr. Barb Welker and Dr. Kristi Krumrine. Peter has also continued to serve as a Research Assistant to Kristi since the beginning of her fieldwork in Coba, Mexico in 2015. Peter is so proud to be a Geneseo Grad, most importantly from the Anthro Department, and credits both Kristi and the late Dr. Rosemarie Chierici for their incredible mentorship and for encouraging him to embark on the path he is on today. Our graduates pursue graduate study in law, social work, sociology, criminology, community planning, and other fields or move directly into careers including social and human services, criminal justice, and business.
