SUNY Geneseo's Department of Art History is housed in Brodie Hall. The hall was designed by architect Edgar Tafel, a noted designer of the second wave of American modernist architects who followed the innovative designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. Brodie Hall houses the Departments of Art History, Theater and Dance, and Music into an integrated Arts area that combines creative expression with scholarship.

The Department of Art History provides students with the opportunity to explore the history of art as undergraduate scholars interested in careers in the Arts. The Department offers linked programs in Art History (Major/Minor), Museum Studies (Minor) and an Education Concentration (School of Education), while encouraging students to develop their knowledge of Business practices (School of Business), through connected coursework.

The Accounting major provides a thorough understanding of modern accounting principles and procedures within the broader context of a quality undergraduate liberal arts education.  Accounting majors at Geneseo develop strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills through numerous individual and group decision-making projects, case analyses, writing and speaking assignments, and independent research projects.  Our B.S. in Accounting program is a professional degree program that is registered by the State of New York to qualify graduates to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) exam.  Students can earn the 150 hours required by the accounting profession to enter public accounting through our one year M.S. in Accounting program.

The mission of the Biology program at Geneseo is to provide students with a broad background in biology, which can be used as a solid foundation for various careers in the biological sciences and medicine. Students in the program gain an understanding of the basic principles of genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, anatomy and physiology. Students also gain skills in scientific decision-making, and in presenting scientific research in oral and written formats. We also want students to appreciate and value biological diversity and to leave the program with an increased sense of stewardship for the earth.

One of the nation's most successful liberal arts-based geography programs, the Department of Geography at SUNY Geneseo offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and administers minor degree programs in Environmental Studies and Urban Studies.

Spanning the discipline's breadth, our curriculum strives to enhance geographic literacy while ensuring that students develop intellectual skills important to the pursuit of an enriching and rewarding life. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics Degree encapsulates a program of undergraduate study that prepares students for further specialization in mathematics, such as through a PhD or Master's program in mathematics or mathematics education. In contrast, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is a course of study that investigates mathematics as a component of a broader liberal arts education. As such, the BA prepares a student to think critically and experience the subject without the explicit intent of further specialization. While the BA has a focus on breadth of knowledge, the BS in Mathematics seeks to provide both depth and breadth. The BS in Mathematics is meant to ensure that students acquire a solid foundation and depth of knowledge in at least three of the areas of analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics, or mathematical research. The degree requires from 51 to 52 credit hours of course work.

The Department of Music believes strongly in the public value of an education in the arts, its vital contributions to the public good, and its capacity to contribute to the quality of life of each individual. The formal study of music helps students develop the tools, discipline, and foundations necessary for a life in the arts whether as music professionals or as highly-skilled lifelong practitioners, while also promoting the value of technique, collaboration, and inherited practice to all forms of creative expression.

• Auditioning for one of our musical theatre productions
• Taking lessons on your instrument or voice (we offer private instrumental lessons and group voice classes for non-majors)
• Audition for the Music major (we offer majors and minors in all instruments, including piano, classical guitar, classical voice, and musical theatre, plus concentrations in theory, history, ethnomusicology, composition and conducting)
• Consider Music Education (we have an exciting partnership with the Eastman School of Music which prepares our graduates for the Master of Arts with professional certification at the Eastman School of Music)

The MS in Accounting program is designed as a full-time/academic year program that builds on the body of knowledge developed in the undergraduate accounting major. Geneseo's small classes, accessible faculty and carefully designed curriculum all reflect the high quality of our highly regarded accounting program.

Advantages of an MS in Accounting

Earning an MS in Accounting provides the following benefits:

• Enhanced preparation: Fifth-year graduates will arrive in the workplace with a superior level of skills and knowledge. This frequently translates to more rapid advancement and enhanced career prospects.
• Career planning flexibility: Professional mobility requires a CPA license or the ability to become licensed. Many states which already have 150-hr. requirements will not provide reciprocity for out-of-state candidates who possess only 120 hours. Lack of 150 hours can adversely affect promotions contingent on a transfer, plans to move out of state, or advancement prospects in a market which includes some 150-hr. jurisdictions (e.g. metro NYC).
• Shortened experience requirement: Masters graduates need only one year of work in order to meet the experience requirement for CPA licensure.
• Performance on the CPA exam: There is a growing body of evidence which shows significantly enhanced pass rates for fifth-year students.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Black Studies is designed for students who want to take an interdisciplinary approach to their education. By working closely with faculty advisors, students in this major design an individualized program of courses, and internship experiences.

The minor in Africana Studies is designed to provide interdisciplinary approaches to the experiences of peoples of African descent in Africa, in the Americas, and throughout the African diaspora. The minor will enable Geneseo students not only to broaden their perception of cultural diversity but to gain a deeper understanding of cultures. Students will draw knowledge from the humanities, the social sciences, the arts, and other fields of learning that will prepare them to begin to face some of the challenges of "living in an increasingly global and diverse world

The Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to promote creative stimulation in students dedicated to either discipline.  Students will be trained in their respective fields, learning the fundamental skill sets necessary to perform and develop their own creative energies. The Department also hosts a number of student organizations dedicated to the fulfillment of these goals.

This past fall, he was selected as a Fellow with the US Government's Presidential Management Fellowship through the Executive Office of the President's Office of Personnel Management. Starting in July, Peter will begin his Federal Appointment at the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), as a Health Policy and Legislative Analyst, working with the US Congress and other Federal Agencies on Federal Health Policy Implementation and Evaluation. At Geneseo, Peter was actively involved in the many various activities throughout both the Anthropology and Biology Departments including Lambda Alpha Honor Society, was a member of the SUNY Geneseo Chamber Singers and Festival Choir, and served as a Teaching Assistant for both Dr. Barb Welker and Dr. Kristi Krumrine. Peter has also continued to serve as a Research Assistant to Kristi since the beginning of her fieldwork in Coba, Mexico in 2015. Peter is so proud to be a Geneseo Grad, most importantly from the Anthro Department, and credits both Kristi and the late Dr. Rosemarie Chierici for their incredible mentorship and for encouraging him to embark on the path he is on today.
