As a UX Design major, you will learn how to analyze and evaluate existing computer interfaces as well as how to improve the design and development of interfaces for a better user experience. A major in UX Design will teach you to combine design’s technical methods with artistic principles, preparing you for a career in interactive web development.

The User Experience Design program offers concentrations in design and development. The design concentration emphasizes coursework in interaction design as well as strategies for incorporating social computing into websites and mobile applications. The development concentration emphasizes coursework in information technology and interactive scripting.

DePaul's graduate Computer Science program is the premier training ground for computing professionals in the Chicago area. Unlike a certificate program, our master's courses focus on fundamental concepts that remain constant, even as technology changes rapidly. Unlike more research focused institutions, however, our courses emphasize the programmatic application of these fundamental concepts. Students interested in research will find an abundance of advanced topics—medical imaging, data mining, algorithmic analysis, and scientific computing, to name a few.

Catholic Studies majors study and work with faculty members from a number of DePaul’s colleges and departments, including anthropology, economics, English, philosophy, religious studies and the College of Science and Health. The master’s in Digital Communication and Media Arts (DCMA) will give you the technical skills and tools to effectively navigate the digital communication landscape. This interdisciplinary degree program is offered through the College of Communication and the College of Computing and Digital Media; you’ll take courses in Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism, Media and Cinema Studies, and Digital Communication.

DePaul’s Game Design degree program teaches the fundamentals and details of game design, and prepares you to work in computer gaming and interactive media fields as storytellers, critical thinkers, entrepreneurs and leaders in the field of gaming.

Throughout the Game Design program, you’ll collaborate on interdisciplinary teams with programmers, artists, writers and audio designers.

You’ll learn about the entire game development cycle, from ideation to documentation, prototyping, implementation, iteration and testing.

The Master of Music in composition program offers students one-on-one instruction with DePaul's distinguished faculty of active composers as well as many seminars with guest composers and performers from Chicago and across the country. Graduate composition majors have their compositions performed during DePaul Composers Forum, a quarterly student composition concert, and submit works to be read and possibly performed by Ensemble 20+, DePaul Wind Ensemble, University Singers or the DePaul Chamber Orchestra. DePaul also offers two assistantships to graduate composition students.

As a Mathematics and Computer Science major, you will take coursework in both the College of Computing and Digital Media and the College of Science and Health. Courses will prepare you for a profession in a variety of areas in computer science, graphics, data analysis, computer programming, and applied or discrete mathematics.

The Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate major is designed to prepare you for graduate study in various areas of computer science, including theoretical computer science, graphics, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and computational methods in applied mathematics. It is also designed to prepare you to compete for theoretical, complex jobs in computer software development.

From health care to academics to sports, the ability to research, analyze and interpret data is invaluable across a range of industries. DePaul’s MS in Applied Statistics not only emphasizes data-analytics skills, but explores how to tackle problems of statistical design, analysis and control. Learn about computation and technologies that play an important role in problem-solving across the job market, including research equipment and software used for data analysis, numerical analysis, simulations and mathematical modeling.

Data Science Concentration
The Data Science concentration is designed to provide students with computational techniques used by statistical researchers and practitioners beyond standard statistical software packages. Students are a rigorous training in mathematical statistics, applied statistics, statistical computing, and data structure. They are also exposed to various applications of current interest. The program prepares students to apply the latest statistical methods, data analytics, data mining, and machine learning to real-world data sets.

As an Astrophysics major, you’ll study the formation of the universe and the behavior and life cycles of stars, planets and galaxies. You’ll focus on scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities to give you hands-on experience in the field of astrophysics.

You’ll start by taking core courses that align with the standard Physics major. The program is designed with flexibility so that you can focus on instrumentation, observational data analysis, or theoretical/computational work by choosing appropriate elective courses.
