Overview

The World Language Education (WLE) program integrates education and language courses. Your foreign language education degree will prepare you to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private schools.

As part of this program, you will take language courses from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and education courses from the College of Education. You will earn a BA from the College of Education, and concentrations are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.

Critical Approaches
The MA in Applied Diplomacy is dedicated to preparing students to enter this dynamic world of diplomacy. Our core courses offer all students a shared understanding of diplomatic studies, global relations, international political economy and sustainable international development, a firm foundation that complements each of our six diverse concentrations.

The Critical Approaches to Diplomacy concentration provides a foundation for those interested in interrogating the power and practices associated with the field of diplomacy. Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics

As an Astrophysics major, you’ll study the formation of the universe and the behavior and life cycles of stars, planets and galaxies. You’ll focus on scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities to give you hands-on experience in the field of astrophysics.

As a DePaul Film and Television major, you’ll choose between two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Television.

Our BA in Film and Television program will provide you with a generalist approach to filmmaking and tv production by teaching you how to use the latest digital technology and examining classic cinema narrative theory and aesthetics.

Our Actuarial Science degree program will prepare you to analyze and help organizations manage the financial consequences of risk and uncertainty. You’ll learn to interpret stat?istics to determine probabilities of accidents, sickness, death and/or the loss of property from theft, cybercrime, natural disasters and other phenomena. Graduates will be equipped with the skills necessary to sit for actuary certification exams.

In the program, you’ll use mathematics, statistics and financial theory to study uncertain future events, especially those concerning risk management and insurance. As you work toward your Actuarial Science degree, you’ll also learn to apply the laws of probability and statistics to problems, and calculate the financial costs and benefits of insurance for various individuals. Conferences and networking opportunities hosted by DePaul’s Arditti Center for Risk Management provide you with opportunities to explore real-world risk management issues and make industry contacts.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.
