The Master of Social Work (MSW) program will prepare you for advanced social work, with attention to professional ethics, respect for human rights and recognition of the inherent dignity of all people. The curriculum is grounded equally in theory and practical application. Choose from one of two concentrations:

• The Community Practice concentration prepares you to lead human service organizations.
• The Forensic Social Work concentration prepares you for practice and advocacy in settings where human services and the legal system intersect.

You’ll be grouped in a small cohort, which enables you to get to know your colleagues and receive individualized attention from your professors.

The master's in Software Engineering provides students with skills that are widely applicable, highly in demand, and richly rewarded. Software engineering is a discipline concerned with the processes, methodologies, techniques, and tools of developing high-quality software systems in a cost-effective manner. The Software Engineering program emphasizes the best software engineering practices, current methodologies, emerging technologies, and their applications in various industries. It also emphasizes the development of communication and presentation skills in a team-based software development environment. The curriculum encompasses all important aspects of software engineering, including: requirements engineering, software architecture and design, software construction, software testing and quality assurance, software maintenance, and software project management.

Software Development
This concentration addresses the foundations, methodologies, and tools for developing high quality large-scale software systems, with an emphasis on the technical issues of software development. Students in this concentration will gain technical expertise and experiences to become competent and successful members of software development teams in a wide range of development environments and application domains.

The MA in Biological Sciences prepares you to communicate your knowledge of life and living systems to others. Graduates of the MA typically plan to pursue advanced education degrees or teaching positions. With a Biological Sciences MA, you will

• Learn to be an independent thinker and researcher
• Develop laboratory skills and methodologies
• Develop your own concentration in partnership with an advisor

Classes take place on the Lincoln Park Campus and are typically held in the daytime.

Prepare to share your skills and knowledge as a classroom instructor of math. DePaul’s MS in Mathematics for Teaching is the only graduate program in the area for career-changers planning to teach math at the community college level. Intensive weekend and evening sessions focus on

• Differential and integral calculus, numerical algorithms related to calculus and implementation of these algorithms using graphing calculators and web-based software;
• Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry using software packages that emphasize content connected to the high school curriculum;
• Discrete mathematical structures with an emphasis on logic, proof and mathematical reasoning;
• Probability and statistics with an introduction to combinatorics;
• History of elementary number theory, algebra and geometry;
• Topics in abstract algebra that relate to high school courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometry;
• Differential equations and advanced linear algebra; and
• Topics in real analysis with an emphasis on improving calculus instruction.

The graduate music education program offers certified/licensed music teachers the opportunity to earn a master's degree in a little over two years with courses in the evenings and summers. Educational theory and practice merge throughout course work, and students have the flexibility to select elective areas of study. The program culminates with a final paper or project, allowing students to research an area of special interest.

The Elementary Education (EE) degree program integrates courses and field experiences that will prepare you to teach first through sixth grade in a variety of urban and suburban educational settings, including public and private schools.

You will learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, participate in field experiences, which require you to observe and participate in teaching activities at multiple schools, and student teach.

As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.

Critical Ethnic Studies
The Diplomacy and Critical Ethnic Studies concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practice—mediation, conflict resolution and advocacy—on behalf of marginalized communities. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy into conversation with the disciplines of critical race theory, ethnic studies, forced migration studies, history, and international studies.

DePaul’s Bachelor of Arts in Animation program emphasizes the art of animation, creativity, and critical thinking—while encouraging experimentation in form, content and medium—within a broad liberal arts context.

You will learn to draw innovative connections between animation and other subjects of inspiration. To develop your animation skills, you will produce live-action videos, draw web-based shorts inspired by Hollywood or anime, or design motion graphics for film titles and commercials.

DePaul’s undergraduate Finance degree will provide you with a solid foundation in financial management and an understanding of public and private financial processes, financial markets, analysis and investments.

Core curriculum focuses on banking and financial services, investment analysis/management, corporate finance management, risk management and qualitative reasoning. Our faculty of scholars and experienced professionals emphasize real-world learning. If you’re interested in the Finance Honors Program, you may apply during your junior year and, if admitted, will begin honors courses in spring quarter of your junior year.

Earn your master’s in International Studies and develop a complex, informal perspective on global inequality. This academically rigorous, thesis-optional program, grounded in critical theory, focuses on themes of power and global systems.
