The Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Directing at DePaul's School of Cinematic Arts is a highly selective program designed to cultivate a filmmaker’s voice through a rigorous filmmaking curriculum. Students will be educated in every discipline involved in the filmmaking process, as well as the business facets of the film industry, enabling them to be best prepared for a career in the industry following graduation. Graduates of the program will emerge with a rich portfolio, including numerous original short films and a complete significant thesis film.

Students have access to unparalleled resources including a dedicated 32,000 square foot production space at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, the second largest production studio in North America and home to over thirty major Hollywood productions including Empire, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and more. Students also have access to state-of-the-art camera gear, including Alexa, Amira and Red Cameras, as well as a fully stocked Grip Truck and other production vehicles.

As a DePaul Film and Television major, you’ll choose between two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Television.

Our BA in Film and Television program will provide you with a generalist approach to filmmaking and tv production by teaching you how to use the latest digital technology and examining classic cinema narrative theory and aesthetics.

Our BFA in Film and Television program emphasizes the technical aspects of media production and explores the relationship between cinema production technologies and creative artistic expression. You’ll choose one of 11 filmmaking concentrations.

The Master of Science in Real Estate equips you with the skills necessary to help you launch your career in real estate investment analysis and finance. Whether you’re a career changer or you already work in the industry and want to deepen your skills, the MS in Real Estate gives you a strong foundation for real estate industry leadership by immersing you in real-world projects with real Chicago companies.

With a master’s in Health Communication, you’ll bring clarity and understanding to complex, critical health care issues for consumers, providers and organizations. You’ll apply communication theory, research and practice to the specific needs of the health care industry.

A master’s in Health Communication will prepare you for a career in

As a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor Science (BS) in Biological Sciences major, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in a wide range of careers in science, research, education, health and other fields.

Inside and outside the classroom, you’ll learn to think independently and work collaboratively. Here, most faculty members direct their own research programs, giving you an opportunity to work on multiple research projects. Biological Sciences majors are encouraged to attend seminars and complete internships.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in education, the Department of Biological Sciences also partners with the College of Education to award teaching degrees.

The B.S. in Biological Sciences major offers you a structured curriculum, with more of an emphasis on science- and math-focused courses. As you gain a strong foundation of knowledge in biological science theories and practices, you'll choose one of the following concentrations:

DePaul’s MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing will prepare and empower you to write a novel or memoir, or a collection of poetry or stories while at DePaul. You’ll work across genres under the mentorship of distinguished authors and poets. With courses in Copyediting, Book Publicity, Book Design, Teaching Creative Writing, and Teaching English you’ll have the choice of a career in publishing or teaching. The Creative Writing and Publishing MFA culminates with a required master’s thesis of publishable quality.

Our faculty have developed a powerful curricula that mine a diversity of ideas from Stanislavski, Spolin, Grotowski, Shurtleff, Lessac, Linklater, Yoga, Tai Chi, Feldenkrais® Method, Laban, mask work, and more. Students are inspired through unique points-of-view within a comprehensive progression of acting, movement, and voice and speech curricula.

DePaul’s history program is designed to help you engage in developing a critical understanding of the past, as well as its impact on the present and the future.

The bachelor’s degree in history curriculum combines a breadth of chronological and geographical areas. Courses examine history in the Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. Through the program, you’ll learn how to conduct research and communicate effectively (individually and in teams), develop writing skills and analyze sources.

Chicago is a historically rich city, providing you immense opportunity to take your learning outside the classroom. As you earn your bachelor’s degree in History, you’ll be encouraged to do an internship and work with faculty on research initiatives.

The History of Art and Architecture program focuses on the diverse visual traditions of different societies around the world. You will develop visual literacy by critically thinking about how art and architecture affect individuals and societies.

As an art history major, you’ll enhance your persuasive writing, research and oral communication skills and take advantage of Chicago’s extensive cultural resources. As you earn your art history degree, you’ll enrich your classroom experience though site visits to exhibits, museums, urban landscapes and architectural monuments around the city.
