In the Exercise Science (EXS) degree program you will learn the scientific principles that relate to human movement. Upon completion of your Exercise Science degree you will be qualified to pursue careers in a variety of areas in the health sciences, as well as apply for graduate programs related to the fitness and exercise sciences.

You will develop specific skills in:

• Nutritional principles related to exercise and sports
• Patient and client interpersonal relationship management
• Performance enhancement
• Prevention and treatment of sports injuries
• Professional ethics and behavior

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is the professional organization that establishes guidelines and competencies for the field of exercise science and serves as the guide for the EXS degree program’s academic quality.

The Women’s and Gender Studies degree program focuses on examining women’s and men’s identities and experiences in relation to gender, race, class and culture. Its curriculum addresses issues of power and resistance and connects feminist theories and research to public policy and social justice.

Classes focus on feminist and social justice theory with an emphasis on agency, social responsibility, advocacy and activism. You’ll develop strong writing and critical thinking skills and learn to make connections between theory and real-world practice.

As a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor Science (BS) in Biological Sciences major, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in a wide range of careers in science, research, education, health and other fields.

Inside and outside the classroom, you’ll learn to think independently and work collaboratively. Here, most faculty members direct their own research programs, giving you an opportunity to work on multiple research projects. Biological Sciences majors are encouraged to attend seminars and complete internships.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in education, the Department of Biological Sciences also partners with the College of Education to award teaching degrees.

The Animation MFA is the premiere degree of the DePaul graduate Animation program. It’s designed for students who are interested in creating original animated films and artwork as their main vocation, and is the terminal degree in the field.

The DePaul Animation MFA program is centered around a fall-through-spring single project model, in which students are closely mentored by faculty. During the first year students spend the majority of their time working on a film they complete under the tutelage of one of the two Animation MFA Co-Chairs, Amy Lockhart and Jacob Ciocci. They also choose MFA Faculty Mentors from our full-time faculty, who regularly consult with them on their projects. Students are helped to develop a personal vision and push the limits of their abilities and the potential of animation as an expressive medium.

During their second year, students begin work with one of the MFA Co-Chairs on their MFA Thesis Project, and assemble their MFA Thesis Committee for regular feedback. The program uses the cohort model, so students will work alongside their peers throughout their degree. Animation MFA students also receive rigorous training in the history, critical artistic issues, and fundamental principles that are necessary for animation artists. The degree is intended for those with undergraduate degrees in Animation, Film, Art, Graphic Design, Illustration and other visual art areas.

Through our Healthcare Markets and Analytics MBA concentration, you’ll become prepared to analyze and use health data to make managerial decisions.

Our MBA in healthcare management program teaches you to use decision-making algorithms that apply data to economic models. Your courses will focus on economics within the health care sector — an industry that accounts for more than one-fifth of the U.S. economy.

In this program, you’ll learn

• How the health care sector is similar to, and different from, the rest of the economy.
• How the behavior of the health care sector adheres to and deviates from key economic principles.
• The crucial and ever-increasing role of data in guiding the decision-making process of policymakers in the health care industry.

The master’s in Mathematics Education is an accelerated, six-quarter program for current and future secondary school math teachers. Meant to improve math instruction in Chicago and its suburbs, the program focuses on math content and teaching strategies and technologies, all directly tied to secondary curricular needs.

The only graduate program of its kind in the area, this 18-month program can be completed over a series of intensive weekend-only sessions that focus on

• Differential and integral calculus, numerical algorithms related to calculus and implementation of these algorithms using graphing calculators and web-based software;
• Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry using software packages that emphasize content connected to the high school curriculum;
• Discrete mathematical structures with an emphasis on logic, proof and mathematical reasoning;
• Probability and statistics with an introduction to combinatorics;
• History of elementary number theory, algebra and geometry;
• Topics in abstract algebra that relate to high school courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometry; and
• Topics in real analysis with an emphasis on improving calculus instruction.

DePaul’s Early Childhood Education program will prepare you to teach and engage infants through second-graders in a variety of urban and suburban education settings. Early childhood educators teach in public and private preschools, elementary schools and child care centers.

As part of your Early Childhood Education degree program, you will learn educational theories and effective teaching practices and conduct research projects. You’ll be immersed in the real world through field experiences—which require you to observe and participate in teaching activities at multiple elementary schools and child care centers—and student teaching in classrooms around Chicago.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

DePaul’s MS in General Psychology will prepare you for further doctoral training or for a range of psychology-related careers, such as statistical consulting and teaching. You’ll receive a solid grounding in theory, essential training in research methods and breadth of knowledge in several areas of psychology. Contribute to new developments in the field of psychology through a research project you’ll develop with guidance from your faculty mentor.

DePaul’s Art program provides a broad foundation in studio art with classes that focus on understanding fundamental artistic concepts through research and conceptual thinking, creative problem solving, artistic skill development, and the historical functions of art and how it impacts the present day and the future.

Art majors at DePaul take a wide range of courses in state-of-the-art facilities, including digital computer labs, darkrooms, and studios for wood and metal sculpture, video, printmaking, painting and drawing.
