The Master of Music in composition program offers students one-on-one instruction with DePaul's distinguished faculty of active composers as well as many seminars with guest composers and performers from Chicago and across the country. Graduate composition majors have their compositions performed during DePaul Composers Forum, a quarterly student composition concert, and submit works to be read and possibly performed by Ensemble 20+, DePaul Wind Ensemble, University Singers or the DePaul Chamber Orchestra. DePaul also offers two assistantships to graduate composition students.

The tools and methods of Applied Mathematics are in demand wherever quantitative analysis is used for strategic decision-making. The MS in Applied Mathematics gives you the expertise you need to use those tools and methods in business, industry or government.

Applied and Computational Mathematics Concentration
The Applied and Computational Mathematics concentration is intended for students seeking a career as quantitative analysts, computational scientists, or applied mathematicians, or for those planning to continue the study of applied mathematics at the doctoral level. Students pursuing this concentration are exposed to a variety of mathematical methods, models, and computational tools that find use in science, engineering, business, computer science, and industry.

Study communication in the context of popular culture, the corporate world, interpersonal relationships and new media with a master’s degree in Communication and Media. Develop diverse areas of interest while focusing on a specific content area with an optional concentration in Interpersonal Communication, Media and Cinema Studies, Multicultural Communication or Organizational Communication. You’ll master the tools and frameworks to critically examine and resolve real-life communication issues.

Media and Cinema Studies
The Media and Cinema Studies concentration focuses on the critical skills, historical grounding, and research methodologies for understanding the cultural and social impact of film, television and digital media in our globalized society.

Our graduate seminar classes investigate current media-related topics through interdisciplinary perspectives including national and transnational media, film and media histories. The impact and potential of new technologies, the power of audiovisual media in society, the role of media in the formation of identities, aesthetics and popular culture, are also examined.

Earn your master’s in International Studies and develop a complex, informal perspective on global inequality. This academically rigorous, thesis-optional program, grounded in critical theory, focuses on themes of power and global systems. We’re dedicated to building a community of scholars and researchers who demonstrate a commitment to questioning power and politics in a way that bridges theory and practice.

DePaul’s Bachelor of Arts in Animation program emphasizes the art of animation, creativity, and critical thinking—while encouraging experimentation in form, content and medium—within a broad liberal arts context.

You will learn to draw innovative connections between animation and other subjects of inspiration. To develop your animation skills, you will produce live-action videos, draw web-based shorts inspired by Hollywood or anime, or design motion graphics for film titles and commercials.

DePaul’s Master of Public Service Management (MPS) is designed to teach you broad-based management skills that lead to careers across many sectors, including nonprofit, governmental agencies, higher education and health care.

Higher Education Administration Concentration
For managers in post-secondary institutions of learning, this concentration teaches necessary analytical and managerial skills. The coursework helps students develop an understanding of management principles, policy analysis, and research within higher education. Electives provide opportunities to explore leadership, governance, strategic planning, budgeting, finance, law, diversity, enrollment management, marketing, student affairs, and politics in higher education.

In the public policy program you’ll learn the foundations of basic policy theory and research methods. As a public policy major, you’ll also examine how public policy is formulated, implemented, and evaluated over time, while you explore notions of agenda-setting and framing of issues that lead to a problem gaining the attention of the government.

Public Policy majors take courses dealing with public policy theories, processes, methods of public policy analysis, and important environmental and urban policy issues. Under the guidance of a public policy professor, you’ll choose a public policy problem to analyze in-depth for your capstone course.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry program will provide you with the fundamentals of chemical theory and practice through scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities.

As a chemistry major will have multiple opportunities to gain hands-on research experience working with chemistry faculty members conducting research projects funded through government, foundation and industry grants. Being in Chicago also allows those pursuing a BA or BS in Chemistry to attend many scientific conferences hosted in the city throughout the year.

In addition to a variety of combined degree programs, we offer a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education Chemistry, allowing you to complete a bachelor’s and a graduate degree in as few as five years.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

From Kant to Mann to Merkel, dive into canonical texts or explore modern German culture and language. The flexible MA in German is ideal for both those who wish to pursue careers in translation, teaching or cultural institutions and for those who are preparing for an academic career.
