African and Black Diaspora Studies (ABD) is an interdisciplinary program at DePaul that will provide you with an opportunity to explore the topics of power, history, identity, gender and race in relation to contemporary understandings of Africa and the movement of Black and African people throughout the world. As an African and Black Diaspora Studies major, you’ll explore the Black experience from a variety of perspectives, including but not limited to historical, artistic, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical approaches. And you’ll study the diverse cultures and societies that make up the global African Diaspora.

Concentrate your study regionally (e.g. Africa, Black America, Afro-Caribbean, Latin America, etc.) or thematically (e.g. literature and culture, politics, gender and sexuality, etc.), and work with dedicated faculty and take advantage of a flexible curriculum to tailor your studies to your interests. In addition to a variety of combined degrees, we offer African and Black Diaspora Studies majors a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Critical Ethnic Studies. As an ABD major, you’ll begin taking Critical Ethnic Studies courses during your undergraduate senior year, leaving only one remaining year for the MA in Critical Ethnic Studies.

Our Hospitality Leadership program will prepare you for a management career in a variety of hospitality industry segments, including hotels, restaurants, private clubs, meetings and events. Hospitality majors here benefit from a program that balances hospitality leadership courses with core business curriculum.

As a hospitality major, you’ll have access to the school’s J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Center for Student Development and Engagement. This center connects you with industry leaders, school alumni and students, and offers you highly-specialized career preparation and leadership development. The center is also available as a resource to help you successfully complete two internships, which are a requirement of the Hospitality Leadership program.

Gain an understanding of the history of philosophy, philosophical issues regarding law, medicine and business, as well as the basic problems posed by diverse thinkers. You will also develop analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills while analyzing both the humanistic and technical features of philosophy.

Regardless of your career goals, a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy will provide you with excellent tools and skills in critical thinking, analyzing content from various perspectives, and verbal and written communication. You will learn to form arguments and take a position on an issue.

The Women’s and Gender Studies degree program focuses on examining women’s and men’s identities and experiences in relation to gender, race, class and culture. Its curriculum addresses issues of power and resistance and connects feminist theories and research to public policy and social justice.

Classes focus on feminist and social justice theory with an emphasis on agency, social responsibility, advocacy and activism. You’ll develop strong writing and critical thinking skills and learn to make connections between theory and real-world practice.

Earn your master’s in International Studies and develop a complex, informal perspective on global inequality. This academically rigorous, thesis-optional program, grounded in critical theory, focuses on themes of power and global systems. We’re dedicated to building a community of scholars and researchers who demonstrate a commitment to questioning power and politics in a way that bridges theory and practice.

The graduate jazz studies program provides students a comprehensive education in jazz, allowing students to specialize in either performance or composition. Drawing upon the resources of the Chicago jazz scene, faculty members are highly celebrated performers, teachers, composers, and arrangers. In addition to applied jazz lessons, jazz ensembles, and jazz combos, Master of Music students enroll in courses such as jazz theory, history, pedagogy, improvisation, composing, and/or arranging. Throughout the program, jazz students have multiple opportunities to record performances and compositions in professional recording studios.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program provides a collaborative, applied approach to public health education, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention to vulnerable populations. Gain the knowledge and practical skills to become an effective public health leader and solve problems to reduce health disparities.

The Master of Music in performance degree prepares students for professional music careers in a supportive, collegial environment.  Graduate students study with highly celebrated performers who are committed to teaching excellence.  The graduate performance program consists of applied lessons, ensembles, core studies in music theory/history and research, and related studies.  The Master of Music degree is a two year program.

Using data to inform important business decisions and provide real-world solutions for companies of all sizes is critical to companies’ success. Through our Business Analytics MBA concentration, you’ll gain the necessary techniques to turn complex data into solutions for organizations in a wide range of industries.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.
