As a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor Science (BS) in Biological Sciences major, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in a wide range of careers in science, research, education, health and other fields.

Inside and outside the classroom, you’ll learn to think independently and work collaboratively. Here, most faculty members direct their own research programs, giving you an opportunity to work on multiple research projects. Biological Sciences majors are encouraged to attend seminars and complete internships.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in education, the Department of Biological Sciences also partners with the College of Education to award teaching degrees.

The B.S. in Biological Sciences major offers you a structured curriculum, with more of an emphasis on science- and math-focused courses. As you gain a strong foundation of knowledge in biological science theories and practices, you'll choose one of the following concentrations:

Earn your master’s in Hospitality Leadership and Operational Performance and combine critical business theories and skills with innovative hospitality leadership practices.

The MA in Animation degree provides a combination of artistic and technical training that prepares students for a future in 3D character animation, traditional animation, computer game art, or visual effects.

Technical Artist
The Technical Artist Concentration prepares students for a range of technical roles, from the complex jobs of riggers, next generation modelers and motion capture artists to the hybrid specialization of the Technical Artist. A game industry Technical Artist is an art department member who serves as a bridge between art and engineering. The TA needs to understand the language of both fields and act as a translator between the areas. In the film and television CGI animation and VFX industries the Technical Artist is more commonly referred to as a Technical Director or Technical Animator. The TA in these fields shares many of the core responsibilities (pipeline, troubleshooting) and animation technical skills as the game TA.

The MS in Information Systems (IS) bridges the gap between business and IT. Business organizations are most interested in serving customers with the best products and services. IT is a fast-moving area with many kinds of technologies, tools, and systems. Our MS-IS program emphasizes understanding of diverse technology trends, agile project management, digital transformation, analytics systems, and innovation with six major elective domains. Students can interact with local IT leaders at annual IS conferences and participate in prominent companies’ real-world projects. Our curriculum has students gain hands-on experience with the latest versions of SAP ERP systems used by Fortune 500 companies and beyond.

African and Black Diaspora Studies (ABD) is an interdisciplinary program at DePaul that will provide you with an opportunity to explore the topics of power, history, identity, gender and race in relation to contemporary understandings of Africa and the movement of Black and African people throughout the world. As an African and Black Diaspora Studies major, you’ll explore the Black experience from a variety of perspectives, including but not limited to historical, artistic, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical approaches. And you’ll study the diverse cultures and societies that make up the global African Diaspora.

Concentrate your study regionally (e.g. Africa, Black America, Afro-Caribbean, Latin America, etc.) or thematically (e.g. literature and culture, politics, gender and sexuality, etc.), and work with dedicated faculty and take advantage of a flexible curriculum to tailor your studies to your interests. In addition to a variety of combined degrees, we offer African and Black Diaspora Studies majors a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Critical Ethnic Studies. As an ABD major, you’ll begin taking Critical Ethnic Studies courses during your undergraduate senior year, leaving only one remaining year for the MA in Critical Ethnic Studies.

Our Management degree program will provide you with an overview of business operations, including techniques to strategically align the human, technology and financial assets of a firm. As a business management major, you’ll become prepared for a career in a variety of service-delivery, manufacturing, consulting, non-profit and digital business environments.

Choose from one of six concentrations — general management, entrepreneurship, human resources, leadership and change management, operations management, or sports management. The courses you take will be tailored to the concentration you choose.

Business management majors here will benefit from programs and networking events at DePaul’s Coleman Entrepreneurship Center and Center for Innovation, as well as DePaul’s presence in Chicago’s 1871 business incubator.

As a Mathematics and Computer Science major, you will take coursework in both the College of Computing and Digital Media and the College of Science and Health. Courses will prepare you for a profession in a variety of areas in computer science, graphics, data analysis, computer programming, and applied or discrete mathematics.

The Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate major is designed to prepare you for graduate study in various areas of computer science, including theoretical computer science, graphics, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and computational methods in applied mathematics. It is also designed to prepare you to compete for theoretical, complex jobs in computer software development.

As an Astrophysics major, you’ll study the formation of the universe and the behavior and life cycles of stars, planets and galaxies. You’ll focus on scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities to give you hands-on experience in the field of astrophysics.

You’ll start by taking core courses that align with the standard Physics major. The program is designed with flexibility so that you can focus on instrumentation, observational data analysis, or theoretical/computational work by choosing appropriate elective courses.

In the Exercise Science (EXS) degree program you will learn the scientific principles that relate to human movement. Upon completion of your Exercise Science degree you will be qualified to pursue careers in a variety of areas in the health sciences, as well as apply for graduate programs related to the fitness and exercise sciences.

You will develop specific skills in:

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is the professional organization that establishes guidelines and competencies for the field of exercise science and serves as the guide for the EXS degree program’s academic quality.

The Master of Music in performance degree prepares students for professional music careers in a supportive, collegial environment.  Graduate students study with highly celebrated performers who are committed to teaching excellence.  The graduate performance program consists of applied lessons, ensembles, core studies in music theory/history and research, and related studies.  The Master of Music degree is a two year program.
