The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts and Humanities is appropriate for students who wish to design a program of study that spans a broad range of disciplines. The student who wishes to pursue this major should contact the Office of Student Academic Services for advising. The Program in Italian Studies is a modern, forward-looking program that has found a dignified place in the multicultural and interdisciplinary environment of the college, without losing its own identity and integrity. It has been supported by the notion that the relationship between Italy and its hitherto mostly European literary, cultural, linguistic-philosophical and historical contexts is a horizontal one. In this spirit, and as we cross the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the Italian program has striven to offer the kinds of courses that reflect Italy as part of the mappa mundi and encourages and integrates course work in other languages and disciplines.

Accounting is renowned as the language and basic tool of business. Every type of business, from private industry, to local, state, and federal public careers, to government, and even academia require accountants. Accountant skills are in demand and they always will be; the job opportunities that exist today are better than ever.

The School of Accounting is selective. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Students who have a high-standing in pre-business courses and/or relevant business experience are preferable to those who do not have such qualifications. Students who have been dismissed from any traditional Accounting program are not eligible for re-admission.

 The Department of Exercise Science & Health Promotion (ESHP) emphasizes technology-based instruction to improve critical thinking skills necessary for health-related professions while publishing molecular and behavioral based research that informs lifestyle choices that reduce the occurrence and severity of chronic disease.

The Bachelor of Arts with major in Health Science degree is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare-related professions. This degree provides broad-based interdisciplinary training with a core in the basic sciences and requires a concentration in one of the following areas: Geriatrics (Aging Studies), Women’s Health, Public/Global/Environmental Health, Science and Behavioral and Mental Health.

The program structure enables students to take relevant coursework in various colleges and departments across FAU to broaden their understanding of factors that both positively and negatively impact the healthcare system, patients and practitioners. In addition, through the Health Science course sequence, students learn how professionals from various fields of practice (medicine, pharmacy, social work, nursing, etc.) interact in a collaborative manner. Students also have access to clinical observation opportunities and other extracurricular activities (lab experiences, internships, research).

Civil engineers design the constructed environment and the infrastructure that supports our society. From highways and buildings to bridges, water resource systems and the environment, the profession of civil engineering is responsible for much of the world in which we live. The variety of challenges facing modern society means that civil engineers can look forward to a highly rewarding, dynamic career.

Management Information Systems (MIS) is a discipline and a profession that brings information and communication technologies to businesses and society. By applying information and communications technologies and systems, MIS solves real business problems and gives competitive advantage to firms. MIS focuses on the concepts and tools necessary for analyzing, designing, planning, developing, and managing organizational information resources.

MIS emphasizes management and looks at applications and technological products as part of a system. MIS graduates have a systems perspective and business processes in mind. They are service oriented and able to communicate client needs to IT staff. They are educated in people skills, project management, and teamwork experience. Although entry level positions are similar to those earned by computer science graduates, MIS graduates are more likely to move into managerial positions overseeing and directing the design and development of systems solutions for companies.

Cybersecurity Concentration
Cybersecurity involves the practice of protecting a business' devices, systems, networks, and data from attackers with malicious intent. Cybersecurity provides organizations with the digital protection they need to conduct their everyday business with confidence

Philosophy has a very important role to play in the acquisition of a higher education.  The study of philosophy fosters an appreciation for the most fundamental ideas, questions, and texts that have profoundly shaped our culture.  However, the study of philosophy also lead to the rigorous development of very practical skills, such as critical thinking, clear and precise writing,  analytical skills, persuasive oral communication, and the ability to read and comprehend conceptually challenging texts.  These skills will help students succeed in life and in any career that they choose to pursue after earning their Bachelor's degree.

The Philosophy Department at Florida Atlantic University offers a high quality Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy.  In fact, s everal philosophy majors from Florida Atlantic University have successfully pursued their graduate/professional education at institutions such as Oxford University, Columbia University, Princeton University, The New School Universisty (formerly, The New School for Social Research), SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Binghampton.

The Musical Theatre Concentration is an extension of our BFA Performance Track. Students accepted into this concentration graduate with a BFA in Performance with a Concentration in Musical Theatre. Although it is not a traditional triple threat BFA musical theatre track, students are required to Minor in Dance, and private voice lessons are available on campus and highly encouraged. Focusing on the actor who can sing and move, these students take BFA acting classes with additional classes in Musical Theatre Dance, Musical Theatre Audition, and Musical Theatre Scene Study with accompanying labs in basic music theory, vocal technique, and sight-singing. Students are expected to make continued progress in their development as actors and artists. Retention is earned by the faculty’s evaluation of the student’s work, commitment, progress and personal growth.

Biomedical Engineering is a broad and emerging field that impacts drug delivery, surgery, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Students successfully completing the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (MSBioMedE) degree program will be prepared for professional careers in businesses related to medical diagnostics, prosthetic devices, and neural and other implants; the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries; and consulting in health-related fields, as well as other positions in industry, commerce, education, and government. Students will also be prepared to continue their formal education at the PhD level in a variety of science and engineering disciplines and at the MD level in certain cases.

The Biomedical Engineering program is unique by allowing a vast choice of electives including biological sciences, biomedical sciences, complex systems and brain sciences, and nursing in addition to three core courses.
