Our programs provide the flexibility you need, allowing students to pick and choose between traditional and fully online classes, with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of research, both taking place in key areas in South Florida and across the world.

The Graphic Design Program provides students with the skills to pursue career opportunities in graphic design and visual communication. The overall goal of the program is to sharpen students’ abilities in visual problem solving and translating verbal concepts into visual images, image-making techniques, and graphic techniques that communicate intended messages, moods, and concepts. Graphic design projects include posters, brochures, corporate identity systems, trademarks, books, magazines, and advertisements of all kinds. Courses cover all facets of the visual communication process, from thumbnail sketches to printed pieces. Students are given assignments much like those they would encounter in professional settings. The program is planned to help students balance studies in art history and studio art with studies in graphic design and computer graphics. Through each course in the program, students are encouraged to develop an appreciation of the various philosophical and ideological positions that could affect their design perspectives.

Secondary Teacher Education degree programs are offered in partnership with the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. These programs are Florida Department of Education (DOE) and Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) approved. This state and CAEP approval represents the transferability of teaching credentials from state-to-state. Secondary programs currently approved include the following subject area and grade levels:

The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering offers an extensive Master of Science degree program in Ocean Engineering with the aim of preparing individuals for engineering challenges to working in the ocean environment.

Specialization in specific Ocean Engineering programs is offered through in-depth studies in the areas of Acoustics, Signal processing, Materials and Corrosion, Marine structures, Marine Hydrodynamics and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Either of these two programs, with suitably chosen electives, constitute an excellent background for a wide range of careers, in particular as a systems analyst, mathematics teacher, actuary and statistician.

The Biochemistry B.S. Program is designed for students pursuing careers in biochemistry and related disciplines, such as molecular biology, biophysics, and pharmacology. Additionally, premedical students who wish to pursue a research-oriented curriculum might be interested in this program.

The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Social Science was designed for students who wish to study broadly in the social sciences rather than concentrate on a particular discipline. The knowledge and intellectual training provided is excellent preparation for careers in government, public service, or law. 

The brain arguably represents the only object on earth with complexity that is greater than the sum of its parts. Neuroscience incorporates diverse aspects of science including biology, psychology, chemistry, physics, computer science and medicine. Furthermore, our understanding of the brain influences nearly all aspects of society ranging from art, to criminal justice to health care. The Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Behavior, provides comprehensive training in the foundations of modern neuroscience. Graduates from this program are prepared for diverse careers including medical school or other health care related fields, graduate school, clinical counseling and education.

The Neuroscience and Behavior undergraduate degree is jointly administered by the Department of Psychology and the Department of Biological Sciences. The degree provides undergraduate preparation for students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in all areas of neuroscience and/or behavioral biology, or in pursuing professional degrees. A minimum of 120 total credits (including degree and university mandated courses) is required.

This degree program provides unique research opportunities and expert instruction to give you tools for changing the ways you see and interact with your world you won't find at any other campus. In addition to course work, qualified students have the opportunity to partake in world-class neuroscience research via Directed Independent Study or special research courses at FAU campuses, or in collaboration with The Scripps Research Institute or Max Planck Florida Institute of Neuroscience.

The Bachelor of Music: Performance concentration is designed to prepare music majors for professional performance careers, private studio teaching and/or the pursuit of further academic study.

Geomatics is a new term incorporating cutting edge technology in image processing, digital photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite-based global positioning, geographic information systems, drone based mapping, laser scanning, surveying and digital mapping. In addition, geomatics engineering can involve work in land development, construction surveying, forensic surveying, hydrographic surveying and spatial data analysis.
