Computer engineering focuses on system, software and hardware aspects of computing, and includes programming and software engineering. Students learn about electronics, logic design, computer design and architecture, microprocessors, design automation, operating systems, and software engineering. Computer engineer's career opportunities are limitless and include working in the computer industry or with companies that integrate computers into more complex products.

Our programs provide the flexibility you need, allowing students to pick and choose between traditional and fully online classes, with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of research, both taking place in key areas in South Florida and across the world.

The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Social Science was designed for students who wish to study broadly in the social sciences rather than concentrate on a particular discipline. The knowledge and intellectual training provided is excellent preparation for careers in government, public service, or law. 

Secondary Teacher Education degree programs are offered in partnership with the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. These programs are Florida Department of Education (DOE) and Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) approved. This state and CAEP approval represents the transferability of teaching credentials from state-to-state. Secondary programs currently approved include the following subject area and grade levels:

 The Department of Exercise Science & Health Promotion (ESHP) emphasizes technology-based instruction to improve critical thinking skills necessary for health-related professions while publishing molecular and behavioral based research that informs lifestyle choices that reduce the occurrence and severity of chronic disease.

The International Business major arms students with the tools to tackle challenges in business while empowering them to contribute and engage in organizations and communities in a global business environment. Program goals are accomplished through an active partnership with the business community while the program continuously enhances the quality and impact of international business education.

Economics has become an integral part of our modern society. An understanding of economics is indispensable when it comes to running a successful business, making sense of international events and analyzing government policy. Graduates with a background in economics enjoy a unique advantage in that economics offers a specialized and powerful framework for tackling today’s problems in the increasingly competitive and global economy.

Economics with a Business Economics concentration (ECON-EBUS): This program has the same diverse foundation in core business principles as other majors in the College, but also integrates economics courses in such a way that the student can analyze business problems with the insight that the economics discipline offers.

The Department of Finance offers a variety of courses in finance which include corporate finance, investments, financial markets, banking, and international finance. The finance major is both a business field as well as a social science field, the major provides relevant training for a wide variety of careers. All finance majors draw upon strong mathematical and computer skills and interests. Many finance majors focus on the practical application of finance in both the private and government sectors. Some of the courses typically offered to a Major in Finance include principles of financial management, financial analysis, capital planning, capital budgeting, funds acquisition, asset and debt management, and investments and portfolio management.

Learning Goals for the Finance Major:

• Analyze the relationships that exist between the financial markets and the financial decisions of business enterprises.
• Apply the economic and financial theories regarding asset pricing to problem solving in financial management, investment management, and financial institutions.
• Explain the role of portfolio theory, diversification concepts, and asset-pricing theory in decision-making in both the business enterprise and investment management.
• Perform a financial analysis using financial statement information and other disclosures in order to assess the financial condition and performance of a business enterprise.
• Estimate the future cash flows associated with a financial or capital asset and apply valuation techniques to these cash flows to determine a present value that will assist in decision-making.

Designed to develop and prepare the business leaders of tomorrow to tackle the challenges of the global business environment, the major in Management has two tracks: Leadership and Applied Management, and Entrepreneurship.

Students in the Leadership track have opportunities to advance in human resources and management with various levels of responsibility building successful teams while managing an increasingly complex business environment. Successful leaders develop the strategies, plans, procedures, and policies that guide a business team in the short and long term. Successful leaders do so by coordinating human, financial, and material assets to achieve organizational objectives.

Students in the Entrepreneurship track receive mentoring and develop the skills they need to start their own business or work in a business startup. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of job growth. Students with the intentions of one day leading their own business will benefit from this quality program. In addition, students have numerous resources available on campus such as the Adams Center For Entrepreneurship and the Research Park at FAU to assist them with a start-up. Both tracks are designed to permit a dual major or minor in a targeted area of interest.

The Department of Political Science offers undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to the understanding of American politics, comparative politics, and international relations. The Department embraces the epistemology of social science research and helps students develop skills important to this field, and many others, including written and oral communication and critical thinking.

The Department offers a B.A. in political science which provides a flexible curriculum that allows students to design a program of study tailored to their academic, professional and personal interests.
