The Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance provides students with a full range of resources to develop their talent and prepare for a music career. Students receive exclusive individualized vocal training from LIU’s prestigious faculty and world-renowned visiting artists. Aspiring performers sharpen their aural skills, study the roots of musical theory, delve into the technical aspects of songwriting and vocal dictation, while preparing for a professional career in the music industry.

In addition to world-class training, Vocal Performance students engage with visiting artists, participate in competitive internships, and have a variety of opportunities to perform. Unique electives, such as The Business of Shawn Carter and The Making of the Album enable students to peek behind the scenes of the music industry in a way that only the one-of-a-kind partnership between LIU and Roc Nation can provide. While attending the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment, students develop invaluable industry connections that will continue to open doors long after graduation.

The profession of social work is growing. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2018) projects a high demand for social workers due to job growth in fields, such as mental health and substance abuse, and settings, such as hospitals. It’s never been a better time to join this dynamic and diverse profession.

The program prepares entry-level social work practitioners to meet the growing, unique and varied social service needs of the diverse communities of Brooklyn, New York City, and beyond. Graduates of the program have strong clinical, advocacy and administrative skills that they use in community-based, governmental, and for-profit organizations across the region.

The program partners with local community-based organizations to provide well-trained generalist practice social workers, prepared to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities through a variety of methods.

In addition to preparing students for careers in social work, the program also prepares students who seek to pursue a graduate degree in social work and in other related fields. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for advanced standing in a graduate program in Social Work. With Advanced Standing, students only need to complete one-year of graduate study to earn their master degree.

The program is registered by the New York State Department of Education. Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology that satisfies the academic and professional requirements specified by ASHA for the CCC-SLP, and are eligible to apply for licensure in SLP by the New York State Department of Education's Office of the Professions. Students who wish to satisfy the New York State Education Office of Teaching requirements for Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) may also prepare for this certification as part of their graduate program. Students demonstrating proficiency (i.e., speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in a language other than English may further prepare for a certificate in Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities with a Bilingual Extension. This program will prepare students to work with individuals who are bilingual or speak a language other than English. For those just beginning in their careers or those seeking a career change, the nursing profession offers a broad range of roles and options in meeting the health needs of individuals, families, communities and populations. 

 The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preparing new nurses through two tracks:

• Full-time day track
• Accelerated 2nd-degree track—a 16-month program for students who already hold a baccalaureate degree in another field. This track offers admission in the Summer, Spring, and Fall. 
• Integrate knowledge from the liberal arts and sciences when providing professional nursing care to diverse individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations throughout the life span and across the continuum of healthcare settings.
• Identify principles of leadership and management for quality improvement and patient safety to the delivery of high quality professional nursing care within current cultural, economic, organizational, and political perspectives.
• Integrate evidence-based best practices into professional nursing practice to improve patient outcomes.
• Use information technology ethically to support evidence-based practice, decision-making, and demonstrate competence using patient care technology in the delivery of quality patient care across the continuum of care.
• Examine healthcare, financial, and regulatory policies that influence the practice of professional nursing and access to care and promote advocacy for consumers and the profession.
• Collaborate with members of the interprofessional team to improve communication to provide patient centered care.
• Provide population-based professional nursing care that integrates concepts of demographics, social determinants of health, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, risk assessment, genetics/genomics, equity, and resource utilization in the delivery of quality and safe care.
• Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in nursing practice applying professional values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice.
• Apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes using clinical reasoning to develop nursing interventions that recognize culture, spirituality, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, and sexual orientation in the delivery of professional nursing care to all consumers across the lifespan.

The B.S in Biochemistry focused on the important interface between biology and chemistry. The degree emphasizes advanced experimental and theoretical education in both the biological and chemical sciences, which serves as a foundation for a variety of career paths, including advanced training in biology, chemistry or biochemistry; molecular biology; research, industry, and medical school.

Biochemistry majors are encouraged to develop specific career objectives while pursuing undergraduate studies. Departmental advisers assist students in exploring career possibilities and in devising a personalized plan of study that will best prepare them for their career goals.

The B.S. in Exercise Science & Wellness specifically focuses on areas such as human performance, exercise physiology, strength & conditioning, nutrition, biomechanics, sports management and inclusive fitness programing. The curriculum was designed to provide a strong foundation in scientific, physiological, and psychological concepts related to sports performance, wellness, fitness evaluation and exercise adherence, exercise prescription, inclusive fitness and health promotion. Our program positions students for careers in Commercial Fitness, with Professional Sports Teams, at Community Centers, in Non-Profit Organizations, in addition to Wellness Companies, Hotels & Cruise Ships, and the Entertainment Industry. Our graduates are academically prepared to pursue graduate and professional degrees in a wide range of allied health professions such as exercise physiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine, personal and athletic training.

Industrial pharmacists are responsible for quality control, using the latest technologies to research drug compounds, conduct trials to test medications for safety, and develop new drugs that save lives.

The Master of Science program in Pharmaceutics with Specialization in Industrial Pharmacy prepares students for careers in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and for entry into Ph.D. programs in pharmaceutical sciences and other related fields.

The 36 to 63-credit Master’s of Business Administration (number of credits is based on your undergraduate coursework) provides the knowledge base and skills that enable professionals to become leaders in business by offering a comprehensive program which meets the needs of an ever-changing, global business environment. The program is offered on a part-time basis during the evenings and weekends with 15- and 7-week semesters, to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals who are interested in advancing their careers. Areas of specialization include public administration, non-profit management, urban government management, human resources management, law and management, international public management and social policy management. Other specializations can be developed in consultation with a faculty advisor from the broad spectrum of courses available through the Program and the School, as well as through courses available across the campus.

Master of Public Administration in Health Administration prepares students for careers in fields that offer numerous professional paths. Students from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of expertise, are taught by faculty members who are current in all of the latest trends and issues in health care administration.

The program of study is flexible and can be tailored to accommodate the professional requirements of the student by offering specialization courses that provide them with the opportunity to examine a specific management function or an area of application in greater depth. Areas of specialization include health care administration, health care management, health care policy and aging/long-term care. Other specializations can be developed in consultation with a faculty advisor from the broad spectrum of courses available through the Program and the School, as well as through courses available across the Campus.

The Program is divided into four parts: an introductory sequence that provides 15 credits of public service sector foundations and skills, followed by 9 credits of focused management topics including human resources, budgeting and financial management, and law and accountability. Students then take 12 credits in an area of specialization and a required six-credit integrative capstone experience, which culminates in a project and a formal presentation.
