The School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences offers the 120-credit Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree with concentrations in six areas. The B.B.A. degree is a comprehensive business degree that prepares students for a broad range of careers in business and for workplaces where technology and data are crucial. The goal of the degree is to provide students with an exceptional undergraduate business education that provides experiential and project-based learning, in-demand and relevant professional skills, and opportunities to plan for a meaningful career upon graduation.

Students in the B.B.A. take a structured core business curriculum that not only includes coursework in the basic areas of business – accounting, finance, management, and marketing – but is also focused on in-demand skills such as entrepreneurial thinking and innovation, selling and negotiating, data analytics, and computational thinking and coding. Students also develop a career plan and complete a practicum or internship where they can apply their skills and gain experience in their field of concentration.

The Master of Public Health (M.P.H) is a professional degree program for individuals seeking training and experience in applied public health. The 42-credit program has strong working relationships with community organizations and health care providers as well as with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. It answers a growing demand for skilled public health professionals and leads to diverse and rewarding career opportunities. Candidates interested in enrolling in the program must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and must fulfill the academic criteria for admission.

Public health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of communities (families, neighborhoods, groups of people) and the population as a whole. Every day, millions of people suffer from preventable injuries, illnesses, and chronic diseases resulting in impaired quality of life and premature death. The goal of Public Health professionals is to help prevent disease, disability, and premature death. The vision of the Public Health movement is health for all and healthy people in healthy communities. Teams of Public Health professionals from a variety of backgrounds use strategies such as: policy, system/service, and built-environment changes, education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics (BSDA) will prepare students for the growing demand in industries for data-literate professionals who can understand and perform data analytics and apply the knowledge in decision-making in various practical fields. In addition to the common core curriculum, the upper-division coursework innovatively consists of the following modules:

Foundational Module: programming in Python, Data Analytics with Excel, R, and Python, Data Structures and Algorithms
Core Module: Database Management, Data Visualization, Advanced Statistics, Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Machine Leaning, Intro to AI
Applied Module: Data Analytics Ethics, Intro to Fintech, Intro to Modern Cryptography, Computational Genomics, Deep Learning, and Capstone Project

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Artificial Intelligence is one of the first degrees of its kind in the country. Students of this program will build the foundational knowledge necessary to design computational systems that exhibit “human-like intelligence” such as the ability to interpret sensory input, learn from experience, understand human language, and support intelligent decision-making. Graduates will have the skill-set necessary to meet industry demand for workers able to contribute to research and development in Artificial Intelligence across all industry sectors. The program begins with introductory courses in programming, computer science, mathematics, and statistics that provide a firm technical foundation. The curriculum then introduces core artificial intelligence concepts and techniques including state-space search, game-playing, machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning with applications to various domains (e.g. computer vision, natural language processing and understanding).

The program is supported by a cutting-edge learning and design center which will provide students and faculty with state-of-the art technologies, tools, and systems to support learning and research. This center will provide students with the opportunity to develop research projects and prototypes with the same big data and artificial intelligence platforms used in cutting-edge industry applications.

The program is registered by the New York State Department of Education. Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology that satisfies the academic and professional requirements specified by ASHA for the CCC-SLP, and are eligible to apply for licensure in SLP by the New York State Department of Education's Office of the Professions. Students who wish to satisfy the New York State Education Office of Teaching requirements for Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) may also prepare for this certification as part of their graduate program. Students demonstrating proficiency (i.e., speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in a language other than English may further prepare for a certificate in Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities with a Bilingual Extension. This program will prepare students to work with individuals who are bilingual or speak a language other than English. The program is offered on a part-time basis during the evenings and weekends with 15- and 7-week semesters, to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals who are interested in advancing their careers. This B.F.A. program is designed for students interested in rigorous conservatory studio training in acting on stage in theatre, and on-camera in film and television. The comprehensive sequence of study has a practical, professional application, preparing students for the modern acting industry. Classes in stage acting, voice & speech and movement are offered in partnership with The New Group, a renowned theatre company in New York City. Master of Public Administration prepares students for public service responsibilities, blending management theory with practical applications in government, health and non-profit organizations. Students from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of professional expertise, are taught by faculty members who are current in all aspects of this continuously evolving and growing field.

The program of study is flexible and can be tailored to accommodate the professional requirements of the student by offering specialization courses that provide them with the opportunity to examine a specific management function or an area of application in greater depth.

Areas of specialization include public administration, non-profit management, urban government management, human resources management, law and management, international public management and social policy management. Other specializations can be developed in consultation with a faculty advisor from the broad spectrum of courses available through the Program and the School, as well as through courses available across the campus.

M.F.A. in Creative Writing prepares students to both be professional writers in the world and to be visionary literary citizens. Situated in the heart of Brooklyn, LIU’s MFA in Creative Writing is an innovative creative writing program centered on world literature, multi-genre education, and publishing. Our applied MFA prepares students for careers in creative writing, academia, translation, and publishing. During their two-year residential program, students have the opportunity to study poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, and translation, and thus receive a robust multi-genre education.

In our MFA’s publishing courses, students study directly with professionals at the heart of the publishing industry. During the course of their study, students learn about commercial, independent, and academic publishing with frequent guest literary agents, editors, and leaders from seminal national and international literary arts organizations. We also focus on the performative aspects of the writing industry including audiobooks, public performances and speaking, and adaptations. Students learn about the intersection between book publishing and popular and new media. Students also gain vital publishing industry experience through literary internships centered in New York City and through the practicum of editing LIU’s flagship literary journals.

Physician assistants (PAs) provide medical care to patients under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. In practice, PAs perform a large percentage of the same care patients receive when they visit a doctor, including taking histories, performing physical exams, ordering labs and diagnostic studies, making initial diagnoses and formulating treatment plans, prescribing medication, performing procedures, and assisting in surgery. PAs may specialize in any area of medicine or surgery and enjoy lateral mobility, meaning that they may move from specialty to specialty without additional formal training.

LIU Brooklyn's Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program was the first in the region to be approved by the New York State Education Department. Successful completion of the program enables the candidate to register as a physician assistant and to sit for the National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
