Undergraduate International Pathway Program (3-Semester) - Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

Highly interdisciplinary, the Coastal and Marine System Science (CMSS) degree program is designed to serve graduate students with diverse backgrounds in natural, computational & social sciences, and engineering. Ideal candidates will have backgrounds in some combination of biology, chemistry, geology, oceanography, computer science, mathematics, engineering, economics, policy, social, or geographic information science. The CMSS program focuses on integrative concepts that have emerged in recent years, linking natural sciences to social sciences.

System Science is a new discipline that seeks to understand the relationships between all of the variables affecting a given phenomenon. Graduates of the CMSS program will demonstrate proficiency in understanding and applying the concepts and principles of all of the natural sciences as well as a working competence in mathematical modeling and geospatial analysis.

With the increasing efficiency of real-time data collection, transfer, and processing, aided by autonomous observation systems such as satellite sensors, oceanic buoys, and remotely controlled or autonomous submersibles, Coastal and Marine System Science is at the forefront of extracting meaningful scientific results from large data sets in near real time.

Graduates of the CMSS program will demonstrate proficiency in understanding and applying the concepts and principles of all of the natural sciences as well as a working competence in mathematical modeling and geospatial analysis.

Music
Our program offers performance opportunities via a wide array of ensembles which are open to all university students, including university orchestra, symphonic and concert bands, pep band, jazz band, university singers, Camerata Isla (chamber choir), and Corpus Christi Chorale. Music majors also participate in chamber ensembles including string quartet, various woodwind and brass ensembles, percussion ensemble, guitar ensemble, and more.

What Will I Learn
Within this program, you’ll gain a broad understanding of music. You’ll also understand music theory, history, literature, and culture. As part of this degree, you’ll perfect your critical thinking skills when hearing musical sounds.

The economics major is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and applications of economics in preparation for their chosen profession.

You’ll be able to demonstrate an understanding of contemporary economic theories and policy considerations in a domestic and international context. In addition, demonstrate the ability to identify relevant (valid, reliable, and important) information to the issue being studied.

Political Science
Political science is the study of politics, government, and public policy at the local, state, national, and international levels. It is concerned with the struggle for power and the exercise of power in public institutions. Political science seeks to reveal the patterns of behavior associated with politics, to explain the functioning of political and governmental institutions, to appraise alternative public policies, and to assess the government's role in society.

What Will I Learn
Within this program, you will gain critical thinking skills including, creative thinking, innovation, inquiry and analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of information. You will also demonstrate communication skills including, the effective development, interpretation, and expression of ideas through written, oral, and visual communication. With this degree, you will gain empirical and quantitative skills, including the manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions.

The Marine Biology Program is designed for students with an interest in one or more of the subdisciplines of marine biology who wish to pursue careers in higher education, government, or private industry. This degree program combines the strength of a diverse, internationally recognized faculty with high scholarly productivity and extramural funding. Additionally, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is located on the Gulf of Mexico, facilitating hands-on learning and research. Students can choose from a variety of classroom and field learning experiences and form committees with any participating faculty. 

The Marine Biology program offers the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Marine Biology. A personalized graduate advisory committee guides each student through the conception, design, construction, and execution of marine biology-based inquiry.

English
Grounded in our academic tradition as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the undergraduate English Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites students to engage with texts and employ language-related skills to connect with others both locally and globally.

We encourage students to explore and integrate three disciplines of English studies in their work, through the study of literature, applied linguistics, and writing. We challenge students to analyze, think critically about, and compose texts across genres, language varieties, and traditions for communities across cultural and geographic boundaries. In our courses and community events, students develop the advanced critical and creative literacies and language-related skills that prepare them for their future as active and ethical members of diverse communities.

You will also apply critical terms and theoretical concepts and perspectives in writing and analyzing texts. At its core, sociology as a discipline aims to deconstruct the taken-for-granted assumptions about the workings of the world. Sociology provides the tools to develop a sociological imagination to allow one to approach the world without the preconceptions in order to see things in a new way.

An undergraduate degree from our department prepares students to work in a variety of community settings, including social service agencies, human resource departments and mental health treatment programs.

Within this program, you will gain a broad understanding of the theories, concepts, definitions and language of sociology. You will also cultivate an understanding of the methods of research and interpretation of research findings. With this degree you will develop selected skills applicable to careers in the public or private sector.

Chemistry
The Chemistry faculty seeks to provide a high-quality educational experience for students majoring in chemistry in preparation for industrial or government positions, for graduate study, and for entry to medical or dental schools. The program is also designed for those planning to teach chemistry or physics at the 7-12 level, or who need chemical knowledge and skills relevant to future studies in the sciences. The student who wishes to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry may do so by following one of the four curriculum plans referred to as Concentrations. The options include general, environmental, biochemistry, and physical science education concentrations. Students who are pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, or pre-veterinary medicine may follow the biochemistry concentration. In addition, the biochemistry concentration offers an option which would allow students to pursue certification in clinical chemistry while obtaining their Bachelors in Chemistry.
