Engineering Technology (Contract Major)

Almost any device or issue you can think of (computer networks, cyber security, controls for robotics, telephones, and more) involves computer hardware and software. Devices enhance how we work, play, and communicate. The design, development, and maintenance of devices involves critical teams of hardware and software specialists.

A wide variety of skills and expertise are needed in this area, from traditional hardware design and engineering, to computer programming. The most exciting new area involves bridging the gap between hardware and software to focus on the application of computer systems to real-world problems. Through this program, you will gain the necessary skills to design, build, repair, and maintain this type of equipment and tools used in everyday life.

Students learn fundamentals related to air, water, and hazardous waste through a range of courses in areas such as water and wastewater treatment, hydrology, watershed management, and environmental regulation. All courses emphasize applied engineering with the appropriate theoretical underpinning. This allows students to understand why a particular approach is typically incorporated into current designs meeting today’s challenges.

Health Sciences - Pre-Professional

The pre-professional track of the health sciences program prepares you for professional graduate study in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistant, or pharmacy. You can pursue the degree on a full- or part-time basis, and you can enter the program as a freshman or a transfer student.The pre-professional track of the health sciences program prepares you for professional graduate study in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistant, or pharmacy. If you’re interested in a career in health care but aren’t sure which area to pursue, the Health Sciences program may be a good fit for you. Health Sciences is also available as a minor.

Our health sciences program grounds you in the liberal arts with a firm foundation in the sciences, while providing a broad overview of the health care system. By majoring in health sciences, you can prepare for future study in a wide range of health care careers.

Although this is a non-clinical program, it will prepare you for graduate programs in fields such as medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, or podiatry.

Elementary Education
As an elementary education student, you will complete a subject major and may select any discipline offered by the University of Hartford or an interdisciplinary behavioral studies major. Your principal preparation, however, is the professional core comprising two full semesters of integrated professional practicum experience and one full semester of student teaching in public school settings.

Students who successfully complete the elementary education undergraduate program and the specified Praxis II examination(s) are eligible, on recommendation of the University, for Connecticut certification to teach first grade through sixth grade.

Students preparing for certification in elementary education have the option to enroll in our program integrating a special education core, leading to a dual certificate. This would be recommended in order to include special education students in a regular classroom.

Music Education: Choral Conducting
Kodály pedagogy at Hartt is built upon and derived from the most recent music education and child development research. A new curriculum reflects characteristics of American folk music literature. Hartt's Kodály program is committed to the finest quality children's music literature and masterwork literature. Students transferring from other Kodály programs should receive prior approval from the program's director.
