When you study sociology here, you’ll learn to think critically about how race, class, gender, sexuality, law, culture, social media, social movements and the state impact individual, lived experience.

Studying sociology builds critical thinking skills and the ability to examine complex questions — skills valued by employers in all fields. You’ll learn there are multiple ways to approach any given problem.

You will design research projects, analyze data and identify useful ways to investigate questions about public policy, public health, community development, globalization, education and the law.

The graphic design program at Susquehanna is focused, close-knit, challenging, intense and ultimately very rewarding. Our work is a fixture in regional and national student design competitions, and our best graduates ascend to art director and creative director positions with astonishing regularity. Our graduates don’t just make pretty pictures, they are sophisticated critical thinkers and problem solvers, and they have the skills required to win jobs at the best design and advertising agencies in the country. This is the ‘Real World’ of graphic design: our students tackle the same sorts of problems and projects faced every day by design professionals at the top end of the business.

Our majors have a wide variety of opportunities to connect with industry professionals and high profile alumni; opportunities for guest speakers, field trips, portfolio reviews, workshops, juried competitions and internships abound.

Mathematics is the study of patterns: from the distribution of prime numbers to the distribution of galaxies, from to shapes of soap films to the structure of musical compositions, and far beyond. Because of its combination of generality and precision, mathematics is integral to most areas of modern life, from the sciences to business, politics, and even the arts.

Master the Spanish language and immerse yourself in the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

We’re one of the only universities that requires semester-long study abroad for language majors. Connect with native Spanish speakers in Valencia, Spain; Heredia, Costa Rica; Merida, Mexico; or Havana, Cuba — to name a few.

While abroad, you’ll live with host families, do internships in fields such as health and grant-writing, and take courses in a broad array of disciplines. You will also travel and make new, long-lasting friendships.

When you return to Susquehanna, you’ll bring back firsthand knowledge of the cultures you’ve experienced and a grasp of the Spanish language only achieved through immersion!

• Connect with Spanish-speakers on campus! Take courses on the literatures, cultures and histories of Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Study Spanish translation, and get involved with activities outside of the classroom.
• Come to our Latinx Initiative, which promotes the understanding of Latino cultures through exhibits, film, presentations, workshops and speakers.
• Join in conversation tables with Fulbright Fellows from Spain and Latin America.
• Share your interests with a growing number of Susquehanna students interested in Latinx cultures and heritage by joining ALAS (Association of Latinx and American Students).

From your very first semester, you’ll get important hands-on experience. In Global Business Perspectives, you’ll work on a consulting project to develop recommendations to improve the profitability of a major corporation, such as Netflix, Burberry or Under Armour. Then you’ll pitch your plan to real-life business executives.

Thinking about medical school or other health professions? Our biomedical sciences major is for you!

This versatile program will fully prepare you for any health-related field. Focused on health sciences, it still leaves ample room for developing other interests that enhance your application to professional schools.

If you want to be a health care professional, you may also wish to consider biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience and psychology as they are great points of entry to a career in health care. Many academic majors will prepare you for admission to professional schools if you also complete the required pre-requisite courses.

Jump into a career as a biomedical researcher or continue your studies to work in health care as a:

If you want theatre as the cornerstone of your undergrad experience, this academically rigorous, broad-based course of study is for you!

Connect fresh audiences to the power of theatre and re-invigorate seasoned participants with new works and exciting approaches to well-known plays.

Learn about theatrical theories, best practices, historical challenges, and the great artists and thinkers of yesterday who make today’s performances meaningful.

Classes range from acting to production and design courses. Combined with history and dramaturgical work, you’ll have a better understanding of human communication, culture and the place theatre has in the world.

Learn the essentials of digital and new media and gain real-life experience as a broadcaster — in front of or behind the camera — at Susquehanna. You’ll gain a holistic view of visual storytelling with our interdisciplinary minors, like film studies, to gain a better understanding of important topics in today’s world.

Learn principles of writing, ethics of communications, theories of traditional and digital media, and what it means to be a communications professional. Then, team up with others to learn tenets of broadcast media and professional communication. At Susquehanna, you will use the latest video and audio production equipment to practice videography, digital editing, writing for new media, commercial production and on-air procedures.

Action!

Evolve from a budding video storyteller to a well-rounded broadcast professional. You’ll amass experience in the field — broadcasting sports, creating commercials or shooting interviews — while you craft your own artistic vision. There are lots of opportunities for you to be involved, especially LensFlare, a group of students who create promotional and instructional videos for other students or faculty and staff.

Many broadcasting students take advantage of internships and study-abroad opportunities to gain a unique worldview of broadcast media. Before you leave Susquehanna, you will build a professional portfolio that will put you a level above the competition in your career field.

Piece together visual clues in images, buildings and objects to shed light on the human experience past and present with faculty dedicated to your intellectual development.

You’ll debate art theory and criticism, while developing keen skills in visual analysis — an invaluable tool in our increasingly image-driven world.

Travel to major museums in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City, or visit our own Lore Degenstein Gallery to carefully study works of art from various times and places.

Popular classes embrace the interdisciplinary nature of art history, examining art through the lenses of diversity, gender and politics. Art history also pairs well with a major or minor in anything from anthropology to communications to foreign language.

Biochemistry is one of the most exciting degrees you can pursue in college.

You will apply chemical and physical principles to increase your knowledge of the complex chemical reactions among molecules in biological systems.

Learn to more fully understand life by studying the chemical relationship with the environment. The uses for this knowledge are astounding.
