You won’t find this kind of program at any other liberal arts colleges — or at many far larger colleges either. We offer one of the only publishing majors in the nation.

Our publishing and editing program is big enough that you’ll have access to a high-tech, dedicated lab and eight department student publications, and small enough that you’ll get hands-on, personalized attention from faculty. Our students have even helped produce a professional publication, which saw two pieces nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

Mathematics is the study of patterns: from the distribution of prime numbers to the distribution of galaxies, from to shapes of soap films to the structure of musical compositions, and far beyond. Because of its combination of generality and precision, mathematics is integral to most areas of modern life, from the sciences to business, politics, and even the arts.

Get hands-on experience in a wide range of production and design disciplines to refine your interests, hone your skills, and prepare you for a lifetime of creativity in theatre.

Our hands-on production labs are small and focused on your development. And our productions rival any conservancy program in scope and quality.

Our students often begin performing on the main stage in their first semester.

• There are four mainstage productions each year, including a student-directed show and a major musical

The graphic design program at Susquehanna is focused, close-knit, challenging, intense and ultimately very rewarding. Our work is a fixture in regional and national student design competitions, and our best graduates ascend to art director and creative director positions with astonishing regularity. Our graduates don’t just make pretty pictures, they are sophisticated critical thinkers and problem solvers, and they have the skills required to win jobs at the best design and advertising agencies in the country. This is the ‘Real World’ of graphic design: our students tackle the same sorts of problems and projects faced every day by design professionals at the top end of the business.

Our majors have a wide variety of opportunities to connect with industry professionals and high profile alumni; opportunities for guest speakers, field trips, portfolio reviews, workshops, juried competitions and internships abound.

Our earth and environmental sciences program links the study of hydrology, geology, meteorology and soil science — water, rocks, air and soil — to explore how Earth’s systems work and how humans impact those systems.

Earth and environmental sciences examines the nonliving components of our environment and how they impact living things. It’s the scientific study of water, rocks, air and soil and their dynamic interactions. You’ll take courses in hydrology, geology, weather, soil science and more, with lots of hands-on field and lab work, culminating in a research collaboration with faculty.

Get the thrill of hearing your work performed live during your first year. We hold a composers’ concert each semester devoted to student-created work.

Our music department is collaborative yet competitive, pushing you to grow as a musician and composer.

You’ll explore a variety of musical styles, conduct student ensembles and become well-versed in music literature and theory.

We’re one of a few undergraduate-only institutions to offer a music composition degree program. It’s small and selective, giving you plenty of chances to work one-on-one with faculty who are experienced educators and active performers.

Majors work towards the development of a cohesive body of work that demonstrates a distinctive personal style. The program emphasizes the mastery of a broad range of fundamental skills, with a focused experience in one technique or medium. Majors are well versed in historical and contemporary art, and are given numerous opportunities to exhibit their work, travel, and receive feedback from faculty and peers.

Prior to graduation, students will professionally mount a public exhibition of the work in The Lore Degenstein Gallery, where they will gain experience in a professional gallery with museum standards.

Required independent coursework and a cross-disciplinary approach allow students to investigate and experiment with multiple ways of creating art. Students are encouraged and given ample time to develop a distinctive and personal visual style.

From your first semester, you can take advantage of opportunities to perform in our many choral, instrumental, opera and chamber music ensembles. You can perform in our weekly department recitals, and you’ll give a solo recital in both your junior and senior years. With no graduate students, the focus and attention is on you!

Off stage, you’ll get a thorough education in music theory and history, including repertoire and pedagogy classes for your instrument from professors who are experienced educators and active performers.

Enjoy bright, airy rehearsal and performance facilities — even our practice rooms have windows!

Our finest venue for live music, Stretansky Concert Hall, seats 320 and is used for everything from student recitals to fully staged opera performances with orchestra. The acoustics are amazing.

Susquehanna will power your natural curiosity and storytelling abilities. You will gain foundational skills like writing, editing, interviewing and even multimedia production — plus the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills from your well-rounded liberal arts education — to empower your storytelling. From podcasting to traditional newspaper reporting, you will develop research skills and learn to adapt content for varying news media to succeed in the ever-evolving world of journalism.

Susquehanna provides platforms for journalism and digital content majors, including the student-run newspaper, The Quill, the LensFlare student broadcasting group and other professional student clubs.

Explore society at every level — small groups, subcultures, cultures, organizations and institutions — and study how people interact.

When you study sociology here, you’ll learn to think critically about how race, class, gender, sexuality, law, culture, social media, social movements and the state impact individual, lived experience.

Develop useful and competitive skills

Studying sociology builds critical thinking skills and the ability to examine complex questions — skills valued by employers in all fields. You’ll learn there are multiple ways to approach any given problem.

You will design research projects, analyze data and identify useful ways to investigate questions about public policy, public health, community development, globalization, education and the law.
