Within TROY’s applied health science program, you’ll have the opportunity to focus on four areas of knowledge and skill. The core of the program—based within the study of nursing—will create a firm foundation for any future health-related field you choose to enter. You may also choose to learn and explore within the applied health science program’s three other concentrations in the areas of communication, nutrition and humanities to further develop your area of interest in the medical profession. An additional option, as you work your way through the program, will be to pursue a degree in nursing by applying to the nursing school with the proper GPA and required course completion.

Through working your way through your undergraduate degree, you’ll find yourself a part of TROY’s Department of History, which is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. Within your history coursework, you will set the groundwork for your degree by studying world history, U.S. history and world geography. European history
From the fall of the Roman Empire to today’s contemporary European culture, TROY’s European history courses will take you on a journey exploring some of the greatest victories and losses felt “across the pond.” These classes will equip you with a deeper understanding of topics such as the Crusades, medieval Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution and provide you with inspiration for your own future classroom.

Asian history
Study the ins and outs of Middle Eastern culture including information about Islam, the Ottoman Empire and the Western influence that has helped shape the Middle East since World War II. You’ll have the opportunity to study the development and interaction of Chinese, Japanese and Korean civilizations, as well as the impact of Western cultures, twentieth-century conflicts, resolutions and accommodations.

African history
You’ll have the chance to dive deep into Africa’s rich history with all its political, social and cultural milestones, including the continent’s division by European powers and decolonization. You’ll also have the chance to follow the history of African Americans from the 17th century to present day.

If a career in physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical exercise testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, health-fitness/wellness, strength and conditioning or nutrition is in your future, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is a perfect fit. This competitive program includes concentrations in pre-health professions, health and wellness and nutrition, and incorporates coursework from five academic departments spread across two colleges.

With an emphasis on preparation for entry into graduate health profession schools in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant, you will be prepared to successfully enter into graduate health profession schools nationwide. Upon completion of the program, you will also be prepared to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning. • Participate in the research process including literature reviews, data collection and data analysis related to the importance and influence of physical activity, nutrition and exercise on health.
• Understand and apply the principles of exercise testing and prescription to diverse populations at various developmental stages and under a range of health conditions.
• Demonstrate requisite skills and abilities for meaningful employment in exercise science-related areas or pursue graduate studies in an exercise science-related area.
