Overview
Sociology is the study of social organizations, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior in the modern world. The sociology major offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Emphasis is placed on inequalities of race, class and gender; social justice; deviance and criminology; social correlates of health and wellbeing; disasters and the environment; and law and society. The major provides students with foundational skills for informed citizenship and active participation in their communities. Sociology teaches a distinctive way of looking at society and offers unique insights into social behavior through research and other opportunities for experiential learning.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering applies quantitative engineering analysis and design to biological and medical problems. It is a field dedicated to revealing basic knowledge of disease mechanisms to improve human health, and to developing new technologies and therapies to improve the quality of life.
The aim of our undergraduate program is to provide students with the training necessary to bridge the gaps between medicine, engineering and biomedical research. We provide a broad foundation in chemical, mechanical, materials science and electrical engineering to prepare students for careers in biomedical research and design with a quantitative engineering emphasis. Our undergraduate program is also designed to provide students with sufficient coursework for advanced training at graduate, medical, or in other health professions. The outlook for biomedical engineers is incredibly promising. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for biomedical engineers will grow by 7% between 2016 and 2026.

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Education
Have you ever considered how governments solve complex problems in areas like immigration, healthcare or environmental protection? In political science education you will learn about national and international politics and policymakers and how to teach political science content at the secondary level. You will learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning while working toward teaching certification. All majors are required to complete 30 credits of political science coursework including three core courses: Introduction to American Politics, Introduction to Global Politics and Research Methods for Political Science. Beyond the core courses, you will take upper-level courses across the political science catalog, related coursework in economics, history, geography and psychology and professional courses in education. You will also have a student teaching experience.

Majors and minors study how different local, national and regional cultures interact within Asia and beyond. The program draws on the strengths of specialists in anthropology, art history, English, Chinese and Japanese language, foreign literature, history, music, philosophy, politics and international relations, sociology and criminal justice. Students may major or minor in the program, with an Honors option also available. Asian Studies complements a host of other majors, including Chinese and Japanese language, history, international relations, political science and international business. The Sports Health major provides unique didactic and clinical experiences that prepare students for exciting graduate school opportunities in Athletic Training and other allied health careers. Clinical observational experiences working with UD's high-level NCAA Division I student-athletes and clinical staff are among the strengths of UD's educational program. Students wishing to pursue a graduate degree in Athletic Training can take part in the only 3+2 program at the University of Delaware. Students in the Sports Health major who decide not to puruse Athletic Training will complete the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in a timely manner and will be positioned to pursue careers in a variety of other health disciplines.
