As a hospitality business management (HOSP) major, you’ll learn to deliver superior experiences and services to your clients. Whether you manage a hotel, food and beverage operation or country club; own a restaurant; or plan weddings and conferences, your degree will equip you with the skills you need for a rewarding career in hospitality.

Our program is consistently ranked as one of the best hospitality management majors and is in the top 10 hospitality programs. We are large enough to lead, but small enough to care personally for each student.

The curriculum is based in business management, with specialized hospitality industry courses. You’ll learn by experience in our two on-campus learning labs: Vita Nova fine-dining restaurant and the award-winning Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware.

Global Experiences

• Over half of our students study abroad during the program. There are a variety of Winter and Summer session programs around the globe. You could also study for a semester at the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality in Switzerland.

Practical Experience

• Nothing complements classroom-based learning like practical, on-the-job learning. The HOSP program requires 300 hours of paid hospitality-related work experience.
• All classes are taught by faculty with real industry experience and academic credentials. And through the Blue Hen Alumni Network and events like the Hospitality Career Fair and the Paul Wise Executive in Residence Speaker Series, industry alumni, leaders and managers frequently visit campus to meet, mentor and hire our students. A variety of student clubs take our students to national industry conferences, providing networking opportunities with leaders and managers in the hospitality field.

Our faculty work hard to help you understand what it takes to be an effective manager. You learn how to be successful when negotiating and resolving conflict with others. In addition, the major gives you flexibility because you can focus on the area of management that’s most relevant to your career goals. You can choose between Business Leadership and Human Resources.

• The Business Leadership track includes courses that focus on leading change in businesses and understanding different approaches to leadership and team dynamics.
• The Human Resources (HR) track includes courses that provide a broad understanding of the functions of HR (such as recruitment, selection and training) as well as how to prepare HR management for the future of business.

The marketing major prepares you to serve a vital role as the liaison between businesses and consumers.

As a marketer, you will identify wants and needs among diverse groups of people, select target markets and develop strategies for new and existing products. You will formulate plans for pricing, distributing and promoting these products and services while utilizing knowledge of branding, advertising, social media and new product development. This work requires careful analysis, creativity and action to tailor products and services to meet consumers’ needs.

If you like coming up with new ideas for products, advertisements and beating the competition, and if you want a career that involves solving challenging problems with analytical thinking and creativity, then marketing is the major for you.

The Blue Hen Marketing Club provides resources and opportunities for real-world experience to students interested in marketing. UNDERSTAND TODAY'S WORLD — BECOME A GLOBAL CITIZEN

The Global Studies major enables students to succeed in an increasingly globalized society by exposing them to the political and cultural foundations of global issues. Our majors develop an analytical approach to critical issues that appear across national boundaries and cultural regions — examining them from a variety of disciplines. This integrated interdisciplinary program of study prepares majors for a broad range of career paths including government and international business or in international health, humanitarian, environmental, development and other types of non-governmental agencies.

The B.S. in Applied Mathematics allows students to gain depth in mathematics as well as one of twenty-one areas of application in science and engineering such as Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physics and Statistics. This degree prepares students planning a career in a field requiring strength in mathematics as well as in an area of application. Students considering a double major in Mathematics and a related area are advised to consider this program.

Economics places you at the juncture of social science, business and social policy. This fascinating subject helps explain the behavior of individuals, groups and organizations.

As an economics student, you will study how markets work to determine what is produced, how it is produced and how income is distributed. You will explore subjects like the role and impact of international trade, the effect of monopolies on the economy and the problems of unemployment and inflation.

This work will help you develop a strong understanding of businesses, markets and financial organizations. This means that you’ll graduate prepared for careers in the private, public and academic sectors.

Earn either a bachelor of science (B.S.) or a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree in economics depending on your strengths in mathematics and quantitative skills (B.S.) or foreign language (B.A.).

What does a French Major study?  Of course, you will acquire the skills needed to effectively communicate with French and Francophone speakers. But what will you communicate? Our department offers engaging courses in French and Francophone literature, culture, civilization, theater, business and cinema. Plus, study abroad for the opportunity to take courses in politics, art, economics, fashion, photography, tourism and gastronomy. Your study will prepare you to compete and succeed in a wide variety of professions while using the language of over 200 million people on five continents.

Neuroscience is a rapidly growing field that draws from multiple disciplines, including biology, psychology, physics, chemistry, medicine, mathematics, engineering and beyond, with the nervous system and its functions serving as the common focus. From molecules to mental activity, our undergraduate students learn about the structure, function, biochemistry, pharmacology, evolution, development, genetics, circuitry, excitable properties and pathology of the human and animal nervous systems. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of neuroscience, our major prepares students for a variety of research, medical, health, pharmaceutical and human services careers.
