?The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

Landscape Architecture is perfect for any student interested in learning ways to address solutions to environmental, natural resource and sustainability challenges at local, regional and global levels. Landscape architects work in cities and communities to help keep air and water clean, provide habitat for wildlife and build safe, beautiful places for people to enjoy. They work in interdisciplinary firms with other professionals to design outside spaces where people live, work and play. So many of your favorite parks, plazas, golf courses and certainly college campuses resulted directly from the hands-on technical expertise and aesthetic sensibility of landscape architects. If you have been to Central Park in New York City or the Baltimore Inner Harbor, you have visited places designed, planned and managed by landscape architects.

Majors and minors study how different local, national and regional cultures interact within Asia and beyond. The program draws on the strengths of specialists in anthropology, art history, English, Chinese and Japanese language, foreign literature, history, music, philosophy, politics and international relations, sociology and criminal justice. Students may major or minor in the program, with an Honors option also available. Asian Studies complements a host of other majors, including Chinese and Japanese language, history, international relations, political science and international business. The program encourages students to further deepen cultural and linguistic engagement through study abroad.

Over half of the world’s population is bilingual or multilingual, while only one in five U.S. citizens speaks a language other than English. Knowledge of other languages and cultures gives our graduates a competitive advantage in any career, and is highly valued in international business and professional communities. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business. Some students enter careers with international or non-governmental organizations such as the International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. The program includes training in music theory, music history/literature, performance ensembles and applied music. Rigorous coursework in music is balanced by significant opportunities for training, research and development in other academic areas. This program is particularly well suited to students with broad ranging artistic and academic interests, and who wish to utilize their music education to advance their careers in unique directions.

Psychology is the study of the basic processes of the mind and the brain and the behavior they produce. Our undergraduates learn about basic principles of human and animal behavior, the scientific methods used to derive and refine those principles and appropriate ways to apply such knowledge.

The secondary social studies education program comprises of seven different majors: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. We produce middle and high school teachers who are dedicated to transforming the lives of future generations through teaching social studies. Our graduates are committed to helping adolescents become informed, engaged and caring citizens, knowing that these same students will be the history makers of tomorrow. You always hear students say, “Oh, Russian? No way! That’s too hard!” But it’s easier than you think! The alphabet looks daunting, but is easily conquerable. And we only have three verb tenses. What better news is there than that? And when you visit Russia you'll find that the warm, generous people will love you even if you only know a little bit of their language.

Students of the UD Russian Studies Program will not only work with the beautiful language but will also have the opportunity through a variety of courses to learn about this unique, fascinating culture and its long history. They do this through Russia's world-renowned literature and through other media such as film, the Internet, political essays and the arts. A working knowledge of Russian can help you in countless fields from government service, politics, economics, international business, the fuel industries, art history and even music, dance, ice skating and hockey.

Comparative literature brings an international and intercultural perspective to bear on the study of literary themes, forms, movements and relations, as well as the interrelations between different national literatures and other disciplines. The Comparative Literature Program provides students the opportunity to design a course of study allowing specialization in two or more literatures.

From its inception just a half century ago, computing has become the defining technology of our age. Computers are integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. Moreover, the field continues to evolve at an astonishing pace, making computer science a vibrant discipline.

UD’s computer science curriculum emphasizes software development and computer theory with the goal that students learn how computers are used to solve real-life problems. Students develop excellent programming skills as they build a solid foundation in the theory and practice of computer science and software engineering. The research of the faculty guides upper-level course offerings, and there are ample opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research projects. Students are encouraged to explore how other subject areas impact and are impacted by computer science through a concentration in a related discipline.
