The Master of Science in Human Resources is designed to prepare professionals to advance their careers in the field of human resources. The program emphasizes the strategic role that human resources plays in the achievement of a firm’s competitive strategy, while providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective human resource leaders. Specific focus will be on the emerging set of human resource competencies and skills needed to navigate the evolving human resources field including globalization, diversity and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, and strategic leadership.

Students will examine each of the major human resources functional areas including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, change management, and learning and development. Students will also learn about key human resource processes, human resource analytics, and the set of skills needed to be a strategic business partner with an organization’s business lines and other enabling functions.

This program requires 36 graduate credits: 21 credits from core courses, 12 credits from one of three concentrations, and 3 credits from a restricted elective.

The Hotel and Resort Management Concentration focuses on training students to fulfill management-level careers in hotel and resort industries. After gaining functional business competencies, students specialize in areas that are critical to success in a range of leadership and managerial positions within hotels, restaurants, spas, resorts, clubs, and theme parks. Students in this concentration are exposed to several experiential learning and industry collaboration opportunities.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a concentration in Hotel and Resort Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the University core curriculum (41 credits), Hospitality and Tourism Management major requirements (36 credits), Hotel and Resort Management concentration (12 credits), Writing Across the Curriculum elective (3 credits), fieldwork (2 credits), service requirement (1 credit), internship (3 credits) and free electives (23 credits).

Designed for both new graduates and those already employed in the public sector seeking advancement, the MPA program in the Department of Public Management provides students with the opportunity to increase knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in budgeting, planning, public policy formulation, public finance, public personnel administration, and collective bargaining. The interdisciplinary program offers twelve courses — nine required courses and three elective or concentration courses. You may also elect to take courses in management, criminal justice, fire science, psychology, economics, and more.

The MPA program is designed to provide exceptional flexibility for our students:

• Classes in the regular, main campus schedule meet on weeknights to accommodate working students. The regular graduate schedule follows a fifteen-week semester format. Online and weekend classes are available.
• Students can choose from six concentrations: fire and emergency medical services, municipal management, nonprofit management, public financial management, public safety, and general.

As a chemical engineer, you will transform matter or energy into forms that benefit human beings. You might design clean energy solutions, do research and development in pharmaceuticals, or create new ways to feed the world’s growing population.

The foundation you will build in chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics – and your collaborations involving engineering disciplines such as computer science, and mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering – will prepare you to rise to the challenges that face both the modern-day chemical engineer and the world. Those challenges — hallmarks of the early 21st century — include environmental integrity, limited resources, and human safety.

As a Chemical Engineering major at the University of New Haven, you will:

The Master of Science in Taxation at the University of New Haven attracts a wide range of accountants, attorneys, executives, and government employees, but it’s an even bigger draw for those hoping to become CPAs. Connecticut law requires CPA candidates to complete 150 academic credit hours of coursework in order to sit for the CPA exam. This program provides those hours.

The University of New Haven M.S. degree program in taxation is designed for accountants, attorneys, government employees, and executives seeking to gain advanced expertise in taxation law. The Event and Tourism Management Concentration provides students with skills and experiences focused specifically on the event and tourism industries. Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience relevant for managing the sustainable tourism experience for the benefit of the traveler, host, and supporting industries. Complex aspects of event, convention, and meeting management are highlighted. Students will also be exposed to the competencies essential to functioning within the industry in an international context.

As a political science major at the University of New Haven, you will develop an understanding of our complex political system and its players, and explore how and where you can make an impact.

You will have the opportunity to conduct data-driven projects with well-respected researchers, learn the craft of politics from real policymakers, become a part of the University’s award-winning Model United Nations team, explore the world through our study abroad programs to France, Japan, Germany, and England, and pursue a variety of internships in Washington, D.C., Hartford, and the New Haven area.

Studying political science can open up a wide range of job opportunities in government, business, the nonprofit sector, the legal system, and entrepreneurial occupations. The reason? The 12-credit community development concentration provides students with additional skills focused on the administration of both traditional and non-traditional programs and services. The concentration addresses planning, development, and evaluation of innovative approaches to treatment and prevention in the public and private human service sectors as well as in business and industry.

Program Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate competence in all 8 core domains of counseling, as well as the concentration of clinical mental health counseling.
• Students successfully synthesize major theoretical concepts in the core counseling curriculum and their concentration area with their practicum experience.
• Students demonstrate, at a professional level, applied intervention skills in the internship.

The program consists of 60 credits, 48 of which compose the core curriculum completed by all students, and 12 of which constitute one of three concentration areas: general, forensic mental health, or community development.
