As a political science major at the University of New Haven, you will develop an understanding of our complex political system and its players, and explore how and where you can make an impact.

You will have the opportunity to conduct data-driven projects with well-respected researchers, learn the craft of politics from real policymakers, become a part of the University’s award-winning Model United Nations team, explore the world through our study abroad programs to France, Japan, Germany, and England, and pursue a variety of internships in Washington, D.C., Hartford, and the New Haven area.

The Bachelor of Science in National Security is designed to prepare students to enter the important areas of employment associated with the national security infrastructure of the United States. Graduates of this program will understand the nature and scope of the various national security agencies, the national security strategy, and the connections between the nation’s national security strategy and the policies developed to help ensure our nation’s security. Students in this concentration learn to use the tools and skills employed in the Intelligence Community (IC); develop the analytical foundations to be able to analyze alternative threats to security; to map and model threats using geospatial analysis; and the laws, ethics, and regulations that structure national security operations.

Program Outcomes:

• Develop a working knowledge of the most prominent features of the global national security construct with an emphasis on the United States’ (U.S.) national security enterprise and its U.S. Constitutional roots.
• Understand key security studies concepts, along with the language, logic and legal foundations of national security with an emphasis on the U.S. programs and key individual actors within it and attention on international culture and conflict zones.
• Apply a variety of models (DIME-FIL; Objective/Ends, Ways, Means, and Risks; Structured Analytic Techniques) when engaged in problem solving and critical thinking about contemporary nation-state security issues; Apply qualitative and quantitative methods in problem solving.
• Explore in high impact practices and/or create a research design/paper, policy analysis brief, or national security brief using qualitative and/or quantitative methods regarding implementation of national security policy and practices.
• Conceptualize and formulate potential solutions to contemporary problems; predict future concerns.

The structure of our society – roads, bridges, tunnels, railroads, dams, and airports – all depend on the skill of civil engineers. To a large extent, so does the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals in that society. In fact, civil engineers have saved more lives, through clean water and sanitation systems, than all of the doctors in history.

In the University of New Haven’s B.S. in civil engineering program, students participate in a multi-disciplinary curriculum that combines mathematics, science, communication, humanities, and social science with a broad base of civil engineering technologies.

The result? You develop the well-rounded perspective that’s critical to the modern-day engineer. Through this program, you will also:

• Narrow your focus by choosing a specialty in structural, geotechnical, environmental, or water-resources engineering
• Design and conduct experiments, then analyze and interpret the data
• Study project management, city planning, transportation, and surveying
• Learn to design systems, components and processes to meet needs and comply with economic, environmental, social, political, and ethical constraints
• Be able to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
• Understand the impact of engineering in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
• Learn from practical and laboratory experience
• Gain experience through at least one internship
• Develop skills in entrepreneurship, marketing, and business
• Use the most sophisticated, high-tech products in the field, including GPS, GIS, CAD, and task-specific computer software

The Hospitality and Tourism Management degree without a defined concentration affords students more elective choices and therefore enables students to add a minor from within the College of Business or from other Colleges in the University if they so choose

Program Outcomes

•     Students will apply general business knowledge to hospitality business operations and growth.
•     Compose written work that demonstrates application of business concepts in the Hospitality and Tourism  disciplines.
•     Develop a solution for a business/operations problem identified with a real-world organization from the Hospitality and Tourism industries.
•    Evaluate a current topic related to social responsibility in the Hospitality and Tourism industries.
•    Orally defend a position that addresses a current topic related to the Hospitality and Tourism industries and business ethics.
•    Demonstrate the ability to make collaborative decisions in the Hospitality and Tourism industries.
•    Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
•    Evaluate how changes in the global market for hospitality and/or tourism impact key issues related to sustainability.

The 12-credit community development concentration provides students with additional skills focused on the administration of both traditional and non-traditional programs and services. The concentration addresses planning, development, and evaluation of innovative approaches to treatment and prevention in the public and private human service sectors as well as in business and industry.

Program Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate competence in all 8 core domains of counseling, as well as the concentration of clinical mental health counseling.
• Students successfully synthesize major theoretical concepts in the core counseling curriculum and their concentration area with their practicum experience.
• Students demonstrate, at a professional level, applied intervention skills in the internship.

The program consists of 60 credits, 48 of which compose the core curriculum completed by all students, and 12 of which constitute one of three concentration areas: general, forensic mental health, or community development.

As an international business major at the University of New Haven, you’ll gain a global perspective through interdisciplinary studies in the core principles of accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing. You’ll also become proficient in a foreign language and participate in a study abroad experience that will enable you to thrive in any global business environment.

The University’s full-time MBA program, which is one of only two in Connecticut – and less than 30 across the U.S. – that offer concentrations that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) certified by the federal government, enables you to both master new skills through rigorous coursework and build a portfolio of experience through internships and real-world learning opportunities that will prepare you to excel.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

Human Resource Management

The concentration develops the strategic approach to effective management of an organization’s workforce.

The Master of Public Administration is the most widely accepted and valued professional degree in the field of Public Service. Our MPA program provides students with the core skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful professional in Public Service, as well as offering students an opportunity to complete a concentration in one of five timely areas: 1) Municipal Management, 2) Public Financial Management, 3) Public Safety, 4) Nonprofit Management, and 5) Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Our MPA accommodates the needs of students new to the field as well as those already working in public service. In both cases, we seek students who are motivated to increase their knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in public service, particularly at the state and local level.

Students who concentrate in Municipal Management focus on the administration, management, and advancement of local or regional governmental units

In our B.S. in Dental Hygiene program, — one of the finest dental hygiene programs in the U.S. — you will learn just how important the dental hygienist is to patients’ overall health and will acquire the in-classroom knowledge and hands-on expertise you need for success in this highly rewarding field.

You will learn important prevention and detection skills as you become both a knowledgeable practitioner and a guardian of your patients’ health. You’ll also:
