In development of metal objects and wearables, our program focuses on qualities unique to Metalsmithing as a craft practice. Students gain an understanding of the discipline, its conditions, possibilities and limitations, while allowing for multiple traditional and experimental processes and approaches.

The Master of Science in Engineering program is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students. The program can be a stepping-stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity. The student, with the help and approval of a major advisor, can choose from a wide range of courses from throughout the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and where appropriate, from other schools and colleges.

Civil Engineering is a profession that deals with the infrastructure of society and impacts your everyday life. From the roads and bridges you use every day to the drinking water that comes out of your tap at home, civil engineers work to develop safe, efficient and sustainable ways to continually improve our infrastructure.

Environmental Engineering and Water Resources Engineering
Environmental engineering uses the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. Water resources engineering (and management) includes engineering for both water supply management and water excess management.

The MS-Taxation concentration prepares students to provide expert guidance on tax matters to business organizations and individuals. In this highly specialized curriculum, students develop technical competence in current tax laws, the ability to evaluate tax consequences of business and investment decisions, and understanding of the impact of tax policy on the economy and specific industries.

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. Students of linguistics do not necessarily seek fluency in a second or third language. Instead, they study the components that make up any given language - the syntax, the grammar, the regional differences, the slang, the pronunciations, the symbols, the changes over time, how people learn a language, and more.

At UWM, Linguistics students can opt for a broad linguistics major which will touch on all aspects of language development and learning. Or, students can choose an applied linguistics major which will focus more on using the principles of linguistics in a business setting such as in the classroom to help students learn a second language, in a social service agency that deals with illiteracy, or at a software company working on search engine optimization terms.

Our competitive performance programs are led by renowned performing artist faculty. Students regularly perform as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral musicians while earning their degree. They are prepared for modern, multifaceted professional careers as performers and/or teachers. The program offers a thorough grounding in instrumental technique and repertory, and broad and continuous experience in performance.

The Department of Economics offers graduate programs of study designed to prepare students for careers in education and for careers in administrative and research positions in government, industry and labor. The programs are built upon a solid core of training in economic theory and in quantitative analysis, with area concentrations in econometrics, economic growth and development, industrial organization, international economics, labor economics and human resources, mathematical economics, monetary theory and policy, and urban and regional economics.

The Department of History offers MA and PhD programs that prepare students for careers in teaching, in historical research, and in archives, historical agencies, museums, libraries and government. The Department offers a wide array of geographically, chronologically and thematically defined courses.

This concentration is designed primarily for the student with an undergraduate degree in music education or performance who wishes to pursue advanced training in Conducting: Choral Emphsis plus related studies in music performance and allied areas. A student must successfully pass an audition that demonstrates an advanced level of conducting skill to qualify for admission to the program.  Students may also have to pass other audition(s) in performance area(s), depending on their focus.

The BS in Public Health is an exciting new interdisciplinary program in the Zilber School. The program provides students with transferable knowledge, skills, and experiences – both in the classroom and in communities. Students learn to effectively, ethically, and creatively diagnose, analyze, and solve a range of public health problems across diverse social and cultural contexts. This new undergraduate degree program in public health gives students access to one of the nation’s top universities for research and community engagement, and to Wisconsin’s only accredited school dedicated to public health.
