In high school, your Geography class probably focused on maps and locations. But, the field is so much broader than that. Geography bridges the physical and human world, using scientific methods to explain and predict people's impact on the planet and the planet's impact on people.

UWM's Geography students graduate with an exceptional ability to intellectually and technologically process spatial data about space, place, and people and how they relate to each other. They understand how to make sense of seemingly unrelated pieces of information by bringing together facts and diverse values. They also are adept at presenting information visually - for example, maps!

The Master of Science in Information Technology Management (ITM) program at the Lubar School of Business is an innovative, STEM-designated program that combines technical, managerial, and business knowledge - providing students with a unique blend of skills to address IT challenges in today's dynamic business environment.

Through a combination of rigorous core courses and advanced elective courses, students acquire a diverse skill set in information technology management and develop specialized knowledge and expertise in areas such as enterprise resource planning, business analytics, and security and risk management.

The program is designed to serve both individuals pursuing a change in career, as well as IT professionals desiring greater in-depth knowledge to advance in their careers. In addition, it will prepare students who seek admission to a PhD program. The program can be completed within one to three years, depending upon part-time or full-time enrollment status.

Our program emphasizes a conceptual fine art practice through the production of darkroom, digital, and hybrid work. Courses integrate socially situated projects with an understanding of both contemporary and historical visual culture by developing a vocabulary for effective communication within the photographic medium.

Everyone is part of multiple social groups. Your local community, your ethnic group, your religious organization, your state, your club or team—these are all examples of groups to which you might belong. The Sociology major at UWM offers students a chance to better understand these groups and the people within them. Students explore the social causes and consequences of human behavior, including topics such as political movements, population shifts, housing patterns, racism, gender inequality, the legal system, the medical profession, crime, families, sexuality, workplace organization, food cultures, and more.

The Master of Science degree in Kinesiology provides students with an understanding of how physical activity (including sport and exercise) impact and are affected by various physiological, mechanical, and psychosocial aspects of human health and performance.

The degree prepares students for careers in higher-education, research, and practice through didactic coursework in the areas of Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Behavior, Rehabilitation, Sport& Exercise Psychology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Health Behavior.

Knowledge and skills in research-related and discipline-specific coursework helps prepare students to address complex real-world health and performance issues and utilize critical thinking skills to generate knowledge and make sound decisions to support continued personal and professional development.

This concentration is designed for the music student with an undergraduate degree in piano who wishes to specialize as a collaborative pianist in the vocal repertoire.

While prospective students are not required to submit Graduate Record Examination scores, they are strongly advised to take these tests before or early in their graduate work if they wish to be considered for a UWM Distinguished Graduate Student Fellowship or if they plan to continue their graduate work after completing a master’s degree at UWM.

Italy has one of the ten largest economies in the world, and mastering Italian can open up a world of professional and personal opportunities.

Italian has more than 67 million native speakers worldwide. Some 120 million people speak Italian as a second language. In addition to serving as the official language of Italy, Italian is common in 29 countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, North Africa, Brazil, Canada, and the United States.

Learning Italian serves as a gateway to a wide variety of career opportunities, in finance, marketing, journalism, translation, and computer programming. Italy is also a leader in the fields of air and water quality control, transportation technology, food and beverage fields, robotics, interior design and fashion.

The courses in the Italian Program are designed to help students become fluent in both the language and culture of Italy. On the very first day of class, students begin speaking Italian, and gain valuable communication skills as they progress through the Intermediate and advanced courses. Students may choose from an array of Italian courses on various topics that enable them to understand key turning points in Italian history, society and politics, cultural trends, and movements in such arts as film and literature. Italian courses contribute to such programs as Global Studies and the certificate program in Food Studies.

The Urban Planning program at UWM is a professional, skills-oriented, master’s program designed to train students to perform a variety of planning-related jobs in either the public or private sector.

The program focuses on planning as a process for improving collective decisions in the public and private sectors. The planning process includes analyzing problems, designing alternative solutions and evaluating their consequences, developing strategies for action and participating in their implementation. This process is used in both government and business in developing policy for future action, so that today’s solutions do not become tomorrow’s problems.

The Master of Arts in Art: Specialization in Design Entrepreneurship + Innovation is a 30-credit program wherein students will merge design thinking, innovation, theory and contemporary design practice to develop design solutions that affect positive social, economic and technological change.

As technology continues to expand into every field and industry, from the environment to education to politics, the market for skilled hands-on technicians grows increasingly competitive. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Computing was designed to produce graduates who can perform programming, software engineering, graphic applications, networking, and operating systems management in a variety of environments, while at the same time promoting power skills such as business communications, ethics, and project management.

The applied nature of the degree implies that graduates will have the competencies to solve real-world business problems through the application of technology. Its curriculum puts a deeper focus on fundamental computer science, software engineering, tech security issues, computing solutions for business problems, and data management. A poll of industry representatives indicates that they see a skills gap in computer and information technology related positions which the multidisciplinary focus of this degree would fill.
